Leona Grace Rickard Lancelot was born in Spivey, Kansas on July 18, 1922. She passed away peacefully on Aug. 12, 2012 in Denver. She had been in a nursing home for several months and recently celebrated her 90th birthday with friends and family. She grew up in small communities in Kansas during the 1920's and 1930's. She graduated from Cheney High School, in Kansas, in 1940. Leona entered nurses training at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1943. In 1941 she met John E. Lancelot and they were married on July 9, 1944, during his leave from the Army Air Corps. After WWII, they settled in Wichita, where John attended college and law school and practiced in Wichita. Leona worked as a Registered Nurse at Wesley Hospital, where both her sons were born, Trent in 1948 and Scott in 1949. In 1962, the family moved to Denver. Leona ran the District Office for the Congressman from Colorado's Second Congressional District throughout most of the 1960's. In the early 1970's, Leona returned to private duty nursing in Denver, primarily caring for elderly women patients and had two clients that she served for 7-10 years each thru 1988, when she retired. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Lancelot in 2008 and two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her sons Trent (Donna) Lancelot of Goodyear, Arizona and Scott (Barbara) Lancelot of Denver, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was interred with her husband in a private ceremony at Ft. Logan Cemetery in Denver. A celebration of life memorial service will be scheduled and announced in the Fall.
