Leonard Eugene Hill

December 25, 1932 — April 4, 2020

A man is born, he lives his life, and he dies. From the first breath to his last there are those who love him for a short time and those that love him for a lifetime. He lives his life and builds his legacy by impacting those that love him and those that he loves. The greater the love, the greater the loss. And so, it was for Leonard.

A son. Leonard was born Christmas morning, 1932 to George H and Louise Hill, Littleton, CO. He was the youngest of three children, grew up in Littleton and graduated from Littleton High School in 1951. Leonard lived his entire life in Colorado, making his home in Littleton, Louviers, Castle Rock and Denver.

A Husband. Leonard is survived by and was married to the love of his life for 68 years, Sylvia. They met in 1947 as classmates and were married November 3, 1951 at Littleton United Methodist Church, Littleton, CO where they are members today.

A father. Leonard is survived by two daughters, Debra (Peter) Scifo and Louise (Dennis) Walker.

A grandfather. Leonard is survived by five grandchildren Jamie (Andy), Sonny (Amanda), PJ (Christie), Joey (Ivana) and Adam (Jessica). He is survived by 14 great grandchildren: Taylor, Ella, Reagan, Brigg, Joshua, Roman, Xander, Mackenzie, Jaxon, Grace, Andrew, Valery, Rylee and Brynlee.

A brother. Leonard was the youngest of three children, brother George Hill died 2001, and sister Doris Hill Zigler, died 2009. He was brother in law to Jack and Margaret (deceased) Cawood and Donald Zigler (deceased).

An uncle. Leonard was uncle to 8 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews.

A life. Leonard lived 87 years, a life of experiences that became his stories to tell. He delighted in telling stories over and over so that his family was sure to be able to recite them without error. We smile with the telling of bb gun fights with brother George and the ‘borrowing' of brother-in-law Don's car. The stories of high school football, basketball and track and the antics of high school boys in the 1950's.

Leonard and Sylvia married without a place to call home, they made it all work. He spent 19 years working at DuPont in Louviers, CO followed by 20+ years at Denver Water where he retired in 1995.

Leonard and Sylvia have two daughters, Debra and Louise that are blessed with parents who were committed to each other and to family and formed a foundation that uplifts and is the strength of the family today.

Throughout his life, he supported his family and community with his keen and self-taught skills of carpentry, handy man and the family jack of all trades. He built a woodworking shop second to none where he crafted and built furniture for the homes of family and friends. He put his woodworking skills to work as he built 10,000+ toy cars for Toy's for God's Kids and filled the toy boxes of his great grandchildren. He crafted items for the Littleton Optimists and was a neighbor and friend to many.

Leonard enjoyed working and tinkering on cars up until cars entered the digital age. He never drove a dirty car with less than a half tank of gas, a lesson he instilled in his daughters who today, drive less than sparkling cars and have been known to coast into gas stations.

Leonard and Sylvia enjoyed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren attending football and basketball games, graduations, recitals and made several road trips to support activities that were out of state.

Leonard and Sylvia traveled the continental US, Hawaii, Alaska and Europe while maintaining a home in Denver, CO where he lived out his life and where Sylvia lives today.
