Leonard E. McVay

Leonard E. McVay, 86, died Aug. 21, 2015 from pneumonia. A very caring, friendly & witty guy who was loved by all. Leonard was born Sept. 29, 1928 in Stanton Township, Miami County, Kansas, to Emmett & Beatrice McVay. He was the youngest of 8 children. His youth was filled with hunting & fishing. At the age of 15 he obtained his pilot license, flew frequently and was an early member of the Civil Air Patrol. He graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1946. His long telephone company career started Sept. 1947 with Southwestern Bell as a lineman & cable splicer. He was transferred to AT&T in Rock Springs, WY in Sept. 1953. In 1957 he moved to Laramie, WY and became the Plant Operations Manager for the State of WY until a transfer to Salt Lake City in 1973. In 1974 he married Frances K. McVay. They lived in Utah till 1977 when he was transferred to Denver. He retired in 1982 with 35 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping & traveling. A handyman who could fix almost anything. He was a Boy Scout Master in Rock Springs & Laramie. He enlisted in the Army Reserve during the Korean Conflict June 1960 & served for 16 years. He is survived by his wife Frances K. McVay, son Michael E. (Cheryl) McVay of Prescott, AZ, sister Agnes Green, Paola, KS, brother-in-law Peter Konrade & numerous nephews, nieces & friends. Memorials may be made to St. Bernadette's Parish, 7240 W. 12th Ave., Lakewood CO 80214. Rosary Sunday 8/30/15, 4 PM, viewing 1 hour prior, Horan & McConaty 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood. Funeral Mass Monday, 8/31/15, 11 AM, St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7240 W. 12th Ave., Lakewood CO, Entombment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
