LeRoy Frederick Whiting passed away in Denver, CO on February 15, 2005 after a two year battle with cancer. LeRoy was the husband of Barbara Faye Welberg (Daughter of Carl and Laura Welberg: Sister of Keith Welberg, Virginia Schoon, Linda Rau) He was the son of Lee and Dorothy Whiting (Brother of Lloyd, Velda, Pat, and Connie) LeRoy was born on August 17, 1942 at Odessa, MN. The family farmed and he was the last child to be born at home. He had six brothers and sisters. LeRoy attended school in Graceville and Ortonville graduating in 1960 from Orton ville High School. Following High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was in the Medical Core unit and was at the Bay of Pigs conflict in 1963. After his military service was completed he attended college at South Dakota State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Economics. On April 30, 1966 he married Barbara Welberg. They have a family of two children, six grandchildren and had over 38 years together. LeRoy thrived on working in many areas of business. He started his career in sales with Northrup King and went on to work with Cargill Corp. as a District Manager for 23 years. He had a lifelong dream of going into business for himself and was able to realize that dream in 1992. In 1992 LeRoy and Barb purchased a furniture restoration business in Denver, CO. They were able to involve both adult children in the operations and today the business continues to operate as a family managed corporation. LeRoy loved his wife, children, and grandchildren building all his happy events around a family get together. He is sadly missed by all his family, expecially his grandchildren who thought he was the greatest grandpa. In the fall of 2002 when his parents left the family home to enter Northridge Nursing Home, LeRoy purchased the family home. Now dad and mom could always go home and the Whiting grandchildren could continue to have the smae gathering place they had always loved. The week before his death he called brother Lloyd to discuss dads upcoming 96th birthday and what we would cook, who would come. His sister Connie was with him and he talked about the chicken dinner they would prepare. LeRoy was close to a gourmet cook, this being of no surprise if you were ever lucky enough to eat his mothers cooking. (He spent hours following motheraround in the kitchen helping her.) Besides his love of family his favorite hobby was cards. Especially hearts, & bridge(which you needed ro be very sharp to play with him!) He enjoyed golf, the horseraces, and loved to keep yp with the business world. Leroy's best attributes were his enormous esnse of humor/practical jokes, he had a hu8ge heart. (If you were in trouble and knew heroy it was a great place to head!) Leroy's Family; Wife Barbara, Dautghter Luci, son William,(Lenore) Grandchildren Zachary, Tyler, Christopher, Elizabeth, Madeleine, and jessica all reside in Denver, Colorado. His father Lee, of Orthonville Minnesota, Brother Lloyd Wihiting (Rosa) of Plymouth Minnesota, Sisters Velda(Wally) of Remus Michigan, Pat Bohlen(Mike) Of Milbank South Dakota Connie/Kate Lundin (Bob) of Bismarck North Dakota.
