Lester "Les" Williams

October 2, 1931 — July 5, 2022

Northglenn

Lester Lowell Williams, 90, a 55 year resident of Northglenn peacefully passed away of natural causes on July 5, 2022.  Les, the youngest of nine children, was born on October 2, 1931 to Frederick and Sara Yarger Williams at the family home in Oberlin, Kansas.  He was raised in Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1950.  Following graduation, he moved to Denver to live with his parents who had previously relocated to Denver due to his father’s illness.  Les married Elinor L. Bowden on September 25, 1952 in Denver and was soon drafted into the Army for the Korean Conflict.  He was honorably discharged in June 1955 and immediately went to work with the US Postal Service.   Les retired after 30 years of dedicated service from the Derby, Commerce City and Adams City post offices.  Following his retirement, he held various part time work positions.  Elinor truly appreciated his working – this was a gift as it got him out of the house!  Les thoroughly enjoyed the many traveling exhibits and displays at Denver Museum of Nature and Science where he worked for a number of years in Security.

Les learned the value of hard work, loyalty, honesty and dedication to family and friends in his early years during the Great Depression and WWII.  He carried these traits throughout his life.  Les enjoyed the incredible beauty and grandeur of the outdoors with his hobbies in marksmanship, hunting, fishing and camping in the majestic Rocky Mountains.  He fully believed in our responsibility to protect nature and would insist on leaving a camp site more clean than initially found.  He was a master gardener, maintaining a productive and fruitful vegetable garden for 55 years.  He would simply sit in a backyard chair and enjoy the satisfactions of his garden.  Les, Elinor, family and friends travelled on several vacation cruises.  In his younger days, he was a member of a square dance club with Elinor.

Not a man of many words, he demonstrated his love and thoughts through his deeds and actions.  Les will be missed for his ornery and mischievous sense of humor.  He was always extremely clear and direct in stating his opinions, thoughts and expectations.

Les was preceded in death by his wife Elinor, his siblings; Alfred, Frances Imel, Frederick, Kenneth, Cecile Jordan, Grace Van Sickle, Wendell and Curtis and sons-in- law; Rob Robinson and Will Maupin.

Les is survived by son LeRoy (Carol), daughters Kathy Robinson and Rene’ Maupin; sister-in-law Barbara Williams; four grandchildren Derrick, Nathan, Kara and Catelyn; two great-grandsons Joshua and Logan.   Additionally, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In recent years Les suffered the devastation of dementia with multiple medical conditions. A special thanks and appreciation to the Staff and Team of Majestic View, Gardens Senior Living Care; the Staff and Team of Elevation Home Hospice and the Staff and Team of Horan and McConaty for their loving care and unwavering support to Les and his family.
