Lewis Wesley McWilliams, age 69, of Denver, Colorado passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 4:44 a.m. at his home in Littleton, Colorado.
Lewis Wesley McWilliams was born on Wednesday, September 22, 1954 to James and Frances McWilliams. He graduated from West High School in 1973. Right after graduation, Lewis served his country in the U.S. Army. His first deployment was to South Korea where he met his first wife, Hang Nok (Jo). They married on November 13, 1974. They had their 2 children, James and Frances. They later divorced on February 1, 1997. After 13 years of service in the military, Lewis mainly worked in warehouses where he put together furniture. His passion was horses and he started volunteering at the Horse Protection League, a horse rescue facility, where he met his current wife, Mary Lou. Lewis was an avid outdoorsman who loved to be out fishing, camping, riding horses or hanging out with his dogs. He was devoted to his horse, Lena, his dogs, TC and Gypsy, and his wife.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, and daughter Frances.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Simanovich, his son, James, and his 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, his brother Glenn, sister Barbara, as well as his nephew.
Family and friends whose lives were touched by Lewis are welcome to come to his viewing which will be held at Horan & McConaty located at 3101 S. Wadsworth, Lakewood, Co 80227 on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 8:00 a.m - 9:00 a.m. For those who do not wish to view, a short graveside service will be held at Ft. Logan Cemetery located at 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, Co 80236 from 9:30 - 9:50. No reception will be held to honor Lewis’ wishes, but whoever would like to join us at his favorite restaurant, El Tapatio located at 3601 S. Wadsworth, Denver immediately after the service is welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations through the Horse Protection League. Your donation is more than a gift. It is an investment in Lewis’ passion for horses and empowers this non-profit organization to provide the feed and services for their rescued animals.
