Lieutenant Colonel Donald E. Carlile, United States Army, Retired, passed away on Veteran's Day November 11, 2015. Donald Edwin Carlile was born in Gary, Indiana on May 15, 1938. His proud parents were Beatrice and Bud Carlile. He was very close with all of his Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Grandparents who resided in Scottsburg, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University with a Commission of 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. He then returned for a Masters Degree. After 20 years in the Army, he retired as Lt. Colonel and proceeded into a very successful second career with aerospace and renewable energy programs. He was married to Barbara Wells Putnam in 1968 and had 2 children, Fitz and Katie Carlile and a son from Barbara's first marriage, Ronald Putnam. He has four granddaughters, Isabella, Hannah and Brianna Putnam, and Sophia Stanton. He then married Sherrie Black on June 19, 2004. They lived in Pagosa Springs, Elbert, and Castle Rock, Colorado. He was an animal lover. He had several dogs in his lifetime. Calibre, a boxer when he was beginning his Army career. Then, Tartar, a Scottish Terrier, Megan, scottish terrier, Epernay and Amythest, rescued greyhounds and Minnie, a French bulldog. He had two horses, Country and Flossie. His hobbies were many, especially anything to do with antique cars (toys and model A's, which he owned at one time in 1978-1981). He loved classical music and traveling. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and was an extraordinary history buff. He collected stamps and coins, art, and antiques. He was an athlete, and was a runner his entire life, participating in numerous races. His death was on November 11, 2015 after a long and beautiful life. We will miss him dearly and carry him in our hearts forever. Funeral will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015, 11:00 am, visitation one hour prior, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122. Interment on Monday, November 23, 10:30 am will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver Colorado, Shelter ""B"". Full Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army.
