Lillian McCrumb

October 11, 1918 — May 2, 2016

Lillian McCrumb was 97 years old when she left to join our Heavenly Father. She is survived by two of her 8 siblings, 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and others that thought of her as their adopted Grandmother. She was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up on a homestead near Bend. Life was not easy for a German emigrant family during World War I but she came from a strong and happy family. Growing up in a large family also helped her to develop a strong work ethic and the ability to trust and rely on others. To graduate from high school, when her family moved to Colorado, Lil moved to Oregon City and worked as a nanny for room and board. Lil joined her family in Englewood, Colorado in the late 1930's and was introduced to Ray, her husband of 70 years, by her brother who was serving with him in the Navy. Except for a short time to live in Climax while Ray worked at the molybdenum mine, she lived and raised their family in Englewood. Lil became a nurse in her mid 30's, coming up through the ranks at Swedish Hospital from Nurse's Aide to a Licensed Practical Nurse. She loved nursing and shared those skills throughout her life. After retiring she volunteered at a variety of places including the Swedish Hospital second hand store where by age 95 she had logged over 5, 000 hours of volunteer service. Even after retiring from Swedish Lil did not slow down. She took up golf with a dear friend and loved watching it on TV. In addition, she baked extraordinary cinnamon rolls, peanut brittle, and English toffee. She taught crocheting and knitting to others. She helped pass down our family history with her extensive collection of family photos and stories. She was always there with a sympathetic ear. Lillian will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is loved! All those who loved her know that she is with our Heavenly Father! Please share your memories of Lillian and condolences with the family by signing the guestbook below.
