Lina Jessie Byrd passed away peacefully on April 24, 2023, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Lina was born May 22, 1936, in Denver, Colorado, to Laina Mattila Weiland and Alferd Wallace Weiland. She attended Baker Elementary School and graduated from Westminster High School in 1954. She was a member of the Westminster High School marching band and played the clarinet and drums. She also played the piano and loved music.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) and belonged to Loyalty Chapter #145 in Westminster, Colorado. She was elected Worthy Grand Matron for the State of Colorado for the 1993-1994 term, and served with Worthy Grand Patron, Ron Hayden. She remained active in OES for the remainder of her life and cherished the hundreds of life-long friends she made throughout Colorado and beyond.
Lina was a florist and, with her sister, owned her own floral shop called Grampa’s House. She loved all kinds of flowers and won numerous design awards during her career.
She loved animals, especially her sweet Toby and rambunctious Ricky. They were her world and constant companions. Wherever she went, one or both were at her heels. They especially loved being in the recliner together. She never lacked for their attention or affection, nor they hers, and no one could come between her and her dogs.
Lina is survived by her daughter Diana Byrd, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, sister Pat Weiland, of Brighton, Colorado, brother-in-law Scott Byrd and wife Norene of Bethpage, Tennessee, and countless cousins, nieces and nephews in Tennessee and Michigan. She is preceded in death by her parents Alferd and Laina Weiland, her loving husband, Ray Byrd, and beloved son, Michael Byrd.
The family would like to thank the ICU nursing staff of St. Anthony’s North Hospital for the compassionate and loving care they provided during her last illness. There are far too many people to mention individually for their care, love, friendship, and support throughout the years and especially during the last month of Lina’s life. Thank you will never convey the deep appreciation and love the family has for all those who loved and cared for her. Lina made lasting friendships wherever she went, and those friends were there for her in good times and tough times, as she was for them.
A memorial service and luncheon to celebrate Lina’s life will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Westminster Masonic Lodge, 8151 Bradburn Dr., Westminster, Colorado.
