Linda K. Brecko

After a long battle with GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor), cancer Linda Kay (Pinkerton) Brecko died on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Linda Kay (Pinkerton) Brecko was born in Chadron Memorial Hospital on April 19, 1949, to George E. and Frieda M. (Snook) Pinkerton. She was a granddaughter of the late George A. and Minnie (Martens) Pinkerton and Lawrence and Mable (Tryon) Snook. She graduated from Chadron High School in 1967 and went to work at Bank of Chadron, where she learned the banking industry from then president Ted Baer. Linda married William (Bill) Gibson, son of Forest and Anne Gibson, in Chadron, and their first daughter, Dena, was also born in Chadron Memorial Hospital. She moved with her family to Aurora, Colorado, in 1972. There Linda resumed her banking career and over the years working at Peoples Bank, United Bank which became Norwest Bank. After her career at Norwest Bank (Now Wells Fargo Bank) ended, she became the Chief Financial Officer of New Horizons Federal Credit Union. Linda and Bill brought into the world two more daughters, Sara and Debbie. She and Bill divorced in 1994. Linda married Ken Brecko, a veteran police officer for the City of Aurora, on the 27th of December, 1995. Together they had a blended family of seven daughters including one set of twins, who were in middle school when they came to live with Linda and Ken. They, and many of their children and grandchildren, were members of Galilee Baptist Church. Linda left her professional career behind and, in her last years, devoted herself entirely to her family, and to volunteering at the church, even while fighting cancer. She and Ken had many grandchildren, a great joy to Linda, and she reveled in their youthful exuberance. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, many aunts and uncles and her niece, Carla (Pinkerton) Lewis. She is survived by her husband, Ken, of Aurora, Colorado, and daughters Dena Bull, of Denver, Sara Matthews (Steve) of Battle Creek, Michigan, Debbie Wycoff (Ron) of Killeen, Texas, Kendra Cerda, of Aurora, Kristin Crable (Brad) of Aurora, Sarah Brecko, of Kansas City, Missouri, Amy Stevenson (Rusty) of Aurora, twelve grandchildren, ranging in age from twenty years to one month old. She is also survived by her brother Dennis Pinkerton of Denver, and her aunts, Margy (Pinkerton) Stoner of Chadron, Nebraska and Betty (Snook) Bowman of Manzanola, Colorado. Services will be held at Galilee Baptist Church, 1091 S. Parker Road, Denver, Colorado, on Thursday, April 26th at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow immediately after service. A private Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
