The world has lost a very high value, wonderful person and heaven gained a loving, Christian soul. She was the loving daughter of Daphne and LeRoy McGowen. Lisa was the cherished and beloved wife of 42 years of marriage to her husband John Meadows. She loved her devoted husband John and she loved and treasured her immediate very supportive family Justin, Brian and his fiancee Jessica Sevedge and Kevin and his fiancee Kaitlyn Keegan with all her heart. She was the adored and celebrated hero of her surviving sons Justin, Brian and Kevin Meadows. She was deeply admired by her surviving sisters and spouses, Leslie and Steve Mitchelll and Jennifer and David Goldston, and brother and spouse, David McGowen and Cristina.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Daphne Rose Maeker McGowen; maternal grandparents, Annie Luceil Rose Maeker and Robert Henry Maeker; and paternal grandparents, Joseph Howell McGowen and Olive LeFay Rice McGowen and additionally by her mother-in-law and father-in-law respectively Martha and John M. Meadows and their parents.
She is survived by her father LeRoy McGowen and from her husband’s side of the family, her brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Harriman, as well as many aunts and uncles and numerous nieces and nephews on all sides of the family.
Lisa was born in Lubbock, TX on September 18, 1961. Her life travels brought her to Robinson, TX, where she graduated high school in 1979 and later finished an Associates Degree of Applied Science in Waco, TX. It was here that Lisa met and began her lifelong love story with John Meadows, a 1979 graduate of Lorena High School. Their whirlwind romance was initiated with marriage in May of 1982 and she was blessed with 42 years of marriage. She was instrumental in providing financial support for the pair while John finished his degree and five years after John completed his Engineering Degree, she started her family with the births of Justin in 1986 and Brian in 1989 and relocated to Littleton CO, returning to John’s native state where he was born in 1961. Later in 1995 in Littleton, CO she gave birth to Kevin, the youngest of the three sons.
Lisa had a love for life that was always cheerful and happy and she touched everyone’s life she came in contact with. The world and many of us in it are all a little better because she was here. Her son Justin has been a builder of schools as a construction worker, her son Brian as a fireman serving Longmont, CO and her son Kevin as a paramedic serving the Northern CO area. She worked to help organize events for the Denver chapter of the New Caanan Society, a men’s faith fellowship organization that greatly improved men’s spiritual lives. Lastly her husband got to live with the girl of his dreams for 42 years.
She will always be remembered as a cherished doting wife, a courageous warrior in the face of life adversity and battles with cancer and most of all as a cultivating, nurturing and supportive mother. She fought bravely and won her first fight with a different type of cancer in her 30’s back in 1993. In triumph, Lisa chose to work at home most of her life valuing raising children over her professional technical career potential. She served as “team mom” and organizer for their youth sports teams and was the constant helping hand at their schools. As the children grew older she decided to work as an Executive Assistant for Adam James International. Upon completing a life of work, she longed for more time with her husband and pursuit of their equestrian interests by retiring in October 2023 but was dealt a vicious blow by fate with the diagnosis of stage 4 cancer in December of 2023 . After 7 months, exhausting all possible treatments she lost her incredibly courageous battle with a stage 4 cancer, eventually passing from natural causes in hospice care in the arms of her husband, John Meadows at her home. She hoped that the information gained from her participation in experimental treatments will provide cures for others in the future.
Lisa will always be remembered for her incredible timeless beauty. Her internal beauty beamed brightly in her kind warm smile, her fierce spirit, her contagious laugh and her loving heart for all living things. She loved the peace of the forest, serenity of a lapping surf on the seashore and the purity of sparkling powder snow.
Lisa was willing to take on any adventure enabling her to travel the world, and did not shy away from any challenge set before her. With her husband by her side, Lisa and John lived a life full of adventure and activities. From snow skiing, to archery, to fishing, to riding horses together, the couple lived a full life that most only dream of.
Lisa’s life’s dream was to own a horse. The good Lord blessed her with a 8 month old Mustang filly in 2017 which she named Chloe. Raising and riding Chole was truly her childhood dream come true and they had a wonderful 8 year long journey together.
