Lloyd Thomas Popish November 17, 1936 ~ February 8, 2008 Lloyd Thomas Popish passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday February 8, 2008 surrounded by his family and loved ones at St. Anthony (North)Hospital in Westminster, CO. He is survived by his lovely wife of 50+ years, Karen, his three children and their spouses, Chuck and Lianne Popish, Debbie Breese, & Terri Popish and Denise Johnson-Popish; his six grandchildren and their spouses, David Dolan, Annette & Ryan Gaschler, Brett Popish & Jenna Swanson, Bryan Butts, Dennis Johnson, & Dillon Johnson; and his only great grandchild, Blain Gaschler. Other surviving family members include his Nephew and spouse, Tony and Sandy Raynes, and, Niece and Spouse, Andre & Bob Gassert. Lloyd was born at St. Joseph hospital in Denver, CO on November 17, 1936 to Joseph Popish Jr. and Virginia Popish who preceded him in death along with his sister, Leona Raynes. On June 8, 1957 he married Karen Hackenberg and held true to his word to love her 'til death do them part. Karen & Lloyd's first child, Chuck, was born in 1958, with Debbie to follow in 1959, and Terri to follow in 1964. Those who knew him best would say that he considered his family to be the most important priority in his life and always would do what it took to provide for them. The values and lessons taught to his children and grandchildren will have positive effects for generations to come. Lloyd served a short period of time in the United States Army in the mid 1950's and after being honorably discharged in 1955, he went to work for Cudahy Bar S Packing Company. He worked there until 1973, when he went to work for Caterpillar Tractor Company. He was employed with them for 30 years when he retired in 2003! His loyalty to his employers could be seen with the length of time he invested with each company and the pride he took in his professions is unquestionable. Lloyd was also very active with his union at Caterpillar, UAW. Lloyd will be remembered most for his witty sense of humor…always quick to tell a joke and bring a smile to someone's face, his passionate beliefs in religion, politics, and his opinions on the occasional football or baseball game. He loved the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies! One of his many passions was being a car enthusiast…he loved cars! Throughout his life, he acquired NUMEROUS cars, fixing them up and showing them. In his later years, he collected model, die cast, replicas and really enjoyed collecting the models of cars he had owned in his lifetime. Lloyd is loved by many and will surely be missed! His legacy will live on in the memories of those who were privileged enough to know him best. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 11:30 AM on Friday, February 15, 2008. Funeral Service to follow visitation at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard.
