Lloyd Maximus Schiel

November 27, 1935 — February 14, 2024

Broomfield, Colorado

Lloyd Maximus Schiel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 14, 2024, after a brief battle with pneumonia. Born on November 27, 1935, in Ft. Lupton, Colorado, to Mary and John Schiel, Lloyd was a man of intelligence, humor, resilience, and high standards.

Growing up on the family farm in Ft. Lupton, Lloyd's early life was marked by hard work and academic excellence. His dedication to his studies allowed him to skip two grades and enter Colorado State University at just 16. His passion for music, showcased through a remarkable three-octave vocal range, brought joy to many through his solo performances and through his participation in church choirs and weddings.

The beginning of Lloyd's journey with his wife, Betty St. John, started in 1955. They shared a life rich in love, challenges, and happiness. Together, they raised their sons, Jeff and Brian, initially in Denver, then later in Montrose, CO after moving there in 1974.

Lloyd's natural charisma and interest in people led to a successful career in sales, first with Farmer’s Insurance in Denver and later with Tabor Insurance in Montrose. He loved people and enjoyed helping them in both happy and difficult times.

Lloyd's essence was defined by love for his family, his infectious laugh and sense of humor, and his appreciation for life’s simple joys. Whether sharing a laugh, performing in community theater, or enjoying the Colorado outdoors through fishing and hiking, Lloyd cherished these moments deeply, creating lasting memories with family and friends.

In later years, Lloyd and Betty relocated to Broomfield, Colorado to be closer to their loved ones, reflecting Lloyd's unwavering commitment to family.

Lloyd leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his wife, Betty; sons, Jeff (Jane Shanley) and Brian (Jane Pavlich); grandsons, Eric and Daniel; sisters, Loretta Lillard and MaryAnn Cavanaugh; and a wide circle of friends and relatives. Preceded in death by his parents, Mary and John, and brothers, John and Ken Schiel, his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11:00am, March 23rd at Broomfield United Methodist Church, 545 W. 10th Ave, Broomfield, CO. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lloyd's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the Prostate Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Lloyd's laughter, warmth, and enduring spirit will be missed but never forgotten, and they will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
