Logan Bauman

Logan Andrew Bauman, age 14, of Parker, Colorado, died suddenly as a pedestrian in a traffic accident near his home on Saturday evening, December 6, 2008. Logan's death leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends, an emptiness we will try to fill with our loving memories. Logan started his life in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 17, 1994. He took in the array of culture in New Mexico – always observing and seeking, even as a toddler, to understand those around him. He moved to Colorado with his family, settling in Parker to begin school. Logan made a huge impact during his short time on earth. There was a certain sparkle about Logan that lit up a room. He loved life and the people in his life. Sports were important to Logan, especially football and the Parker Hawks, for whom Logan played quarterback this past year. His enthusiasm, optimism and hustle distinguished Logan's approach to sports – and life. Logan also participated in basketball and track and enjoyed attending Rockies and Broncos games. However, his heart belonged to the Packers. He was a cheesehead to the core and saw Brett Favre throw the longest touchdown pass in overtime history when the Pack played the Broncos in Denver last year. Logan enjoyed school and being with his friends and teachers, and believed knowledge provides empowerment and choices. On the day of his accident, Logan had completed entrance exams for Regis Jesuit High School – dreaming of attending this private school. In true fashion, Logan wrote a paper for his dad, convincing him Regis was the best choice for Logan. He highlighted the small teacher/student ratio, curriculum opportunities, and the importance of having a school with this reputation on his record, as he applied for colleges. Needless to say, Logan was not only an excellent student, but a born politician. Heaven must have been in need of a President. Logan was a world-class player of Guitar Hero and delighted in proving it to anyone who dared to test his skills. He was an accomplished trumpet player and had been given the honor of being the only student chosen to direct a song at the concert to be held on December 9. We hope no one misses a note, as Logan will be directing from above. Logan spent the Thanksgiving weekend back in Nebraska with family. He was able to hunt with his faithful companion, yellow lab Chloe. He and his dad attended the Nebraska/Colorado football game in Lincoln, cheering on the Huskers. Logan's cousin, Dreu, will add Logan's name to the sweatbands and eye-black he'll wear in the Gator Bowl. Fellow Huskers Keith Williams, Mike McNeill, and Mike Smith will also wear Logan's name on their bands - a tribute to the young man they met while visiting the Baumans in Parker. A natural leader, Logan never took more from a relationship than he was willing to give back. Logan looked for the best in everyone and every situation, choosing to view the cup as ""half-full"". His many friends are a testament to his character. These students not only planned and carried out vigils and memorials for Logan, but went so far as to establish Logan's Regis Scholarship fund – all on their own – digging into their pockets the evening after his death to raise the $250 needed to open an account. They have since raised another $1, 200. They understand how important it was for Logan to attend Regis and the prohibitive cost attached. One student was quoted as saying, ""We are doing this so other smart kids like Logan can afford to go to this school."" Logan looks down from above with great pride for the accomplishments of his classmates and the wonderful tribute they have given him. Logan was a good and loyal son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. He is the cherished son of Karla and Andy and brother of Alyse, all of Parker, CO (formerly of Gothenburg and Imperial, NE); the grandson of Kent and Donita Pribbeno of Imperial, NE and Jerry and Mary Lou Bauman of Kearney, NE, and the late Jeralyn Bauman; the nephew of Marc and Mindy Young of Cozad, NE; Mike and Jana Pribbeno of Imperial, NE; Doug and Tracy Pribbeno, Indianapolis, IN; Mike and Ann Smith, Leesburg, GA. Also survived by numerous cousins and friends. The Funeral Service for Logan will be on Thursday at 11:00 AM, Parker United Methodist Church, 11805 S. Pine Drive (at Parker Rd.).
