Lois Ann Altman

August 16, 1925 — May 30, 2009

Lois Ann Coan and her twin brother, Lewis Coan, were born on August 16, 1925 in Denver, CO. Their parents were Christena (Flanagan) and John Coan. She had fond memories of growing up in Florrisant, CO before returning to Denver where she graduated from North High School. It was World War II when she graduated so she went at the Continental-Denver Modifications Center preparing B-17s for combat. After the war she worked at Montgomery Ward. Both her mother and father had many siblings so there were numerous cousins. They maintained close contact throughout their lives; the families continued to have family reunions once or twice a year. On October 12, 1948 Lois married Fred Altman, Jr. at St. Dominic's Church in North Denver. In 1951 they bought a house in Southwest Denver where they raised six children. Kathleen (Kathy) was born in 1949; Lisa Nichole (Nikki) was born in 1954; Mark was born in 1956; Laureen (Laury) was born in 1959; John was born in 1962 and Dean was born in 1965. Through all these years she was the Mom who could usually be found at home taking care of the family. Therefore; she became the substitute mother for many friends of the family. As the children grew up she used her skills as a seamstress to make prize-winning quilts. She also did counted cross stitch, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, etc. for projects other than quilts. She made or altered dresses for proms and weddings for granddaughters as well as daughters. She did the crossword puzzle every morning. There was never any doubt that time with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews was the most important thing she did. Rosary Tues 7:00PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Blvd., Denver. Funeral Mass Wednesday 11:30AM All Saints Catholic Church, 2559 So. Federal Blvd., Denver. Interment Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Please share your memories of Lois and condolences for the family by selecting the ""Sign Guestbook"" tab.
