Lois Egan

August 5, 1932 — September 25, 2021

Highlands Ranch, Colorado

Lois Ann Egan, 89 passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Highlands Ranch Colorado, September 25, 2021. She was born August 5, 1932, in New London, Wisconsin to Gladys and Edward Prunty. Her husband Thomas B. Egan preceded her in death. Lois is survived by her six children: Steven Thomas Egan, Colleen Ann Mendez, Maureen Patricia Savidge, Kathleen Marie Johnson, Brian John Egan, and Thomas Edward Egan. Lois was third in a family of ten children. She is survived by her sisters Percy and Ann and her brother Edward (Eddie). Lois was preceded in death by brothers Dan, Sylvester (Sib), Pat and Mike, sisters Kathryn (Kay), Mary, and by one grandson Tyler Rhode.

Lois was a great student as a young girl and received scholarship to Marquette University after graduation from Bear Creek High School in Wisconsin. After high school at about the age of eighteen Lois lost a kidney due to illness and almost died while her husband to be, Tom was serving in Korea. Upon his return she chose to marry the love of her life, Tom, in March of 1954. The family moved to Milwaukee so that Tom could attend college. Lois had three toddlers to take care of at the point Tom was finishing his degree. Upon graduation the family moved quite often due to Tom’s career. They lived in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, South Africa, and Colorado (three times). Lois had been a resident of Colorado for the past 43 years. The most impactful event for Lois and the family was the move from Duluth, Minnesota to Johannesburg, South Africa in the winter of 1968, during the period of apartheid. After 4 years overseas the family moved back to the states, specifically to California. To explore her artistic and academic side Lois attended Junior College to study interior design. Perspective drawing was her favorite class. Unfortunately, she was not able to complete her degree as there was another move in store for the family, back to Colorado for the third time in her life.

While in Colorado she learned to ski and play golf, accomplishing the feat of a “hole-in one” at Hiwan Golf course on the 3rd hole. Lois was also a terrific artist and loved to oil paint and created many beautiful and treasured works of art. Lois was not always a homemaker, mother and wife. During their stint in South Africa there were times when she supported her husband in his business as his secretary. In Colorado she was employed by Joslin’s Department store in clothing sales. This also allowed her to expand her wardrobe. After twelve years Lois retired with her permanent discount card at Joslin’s, which she loved and used often. Lois and Tom enjoyed their well-earned retirement. They loved to entertain, enjoyed their children and their families, and loved to travel and with trips to Ireland, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand. Lois was most proud of her family which included 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
