Lois Emme Green, passed away in Lakewood, CO, on May 8, 2009 just days after her 85th birthday. She was born in Neenah, Wisconsin on April 30, 1924, to Earle and Ada Emme. Earle was a Methodist minister and professor of religion and psychology at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and later at Bradley College in Peoria, Illinois. Lois and her brother, Eugene Emme, were raised in Sioux City. Eugene went on to become the Chief Historian at NASA in Washington, D.C. In 1946, Lois graduated with a BA from Morningside College, in Sioux City. She lived in various states until 1962, when she came to the Denver area where she lived until her death. Lois worked as an administrative assistant in various departments at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood for 20 plus years, at both the Arvada and Lakewood campuses. She had many passions. She loved family, friends, music, bridge and travel. She volunteered in numerous organizations such as the Troubadours Singing Group, Lakewood Heritage Center, Lutheran Medical Center and also tutored grade school children. She served on the Senior Advisory Board for the City of Lakewood. Her easy smile, sparkling eyes, and warm manner created a wide array of friends in her social circle, the various volunteer groups, and at Red Rocks Community College. She also attended Green Mountain United Methodist Church and was active in the church choir and bible study. She had traveled often to Europe and the Middle East. Her enthusiasm and joy made every journey special. She was in Berlin on the day they took down Checkpoint Charlie. Her last trip fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling through the areas where the U.S. troops landed at Normandy. She is survived by three children, Pam, Pat and Mike. Pam and her husband, Larry Hoenig, live in Los Altos, CA. Pat and his wife, Mashenka Lundberg, live in Golden, CO. Mike recently moved back to CO from CA. Lois is also survived by four grandchildren: Topher Hollinger, Brook Fonzone, Kinsey Green and Mikey Green Jr. A memorial service will be held Friday, 2:00 PM, at Green Mountain United Methodist Church, 12755 W. Cedar Dr., Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Green Mountain United Methodist Church, to Morningside College, or to Lutheran Medical Center.
