Lon Aaron Burke, 56 years of age passed peacefully in his sleep on July 13, 2021. Lon was born in Seattle, Washington on December 30, 1964 and grew up in Pocatello, Idaho, one of four children.
Lon attended Boise State and was president of his class. He had political aspirations during his years there. After graduating from Boise State he went to Law School at the University of Iowa. Graduating in 1995. He joined the firm of Snell & Wilmer LLP in Phoenix after graduating. His career as a lawyer spanned more than twenty years before Lon decided to become a police officer. He attended the police academy in Denver, Colorado. Upon graduating, Lon went to work for the City of Denver in the first precinct.
Lon loved his Gunnar, a Boxer, his puppy Tank, a Boston Terrier. College Football (Boise St and Iowa). He loved College Wrestling (Iowa) defending National Champions and Rugby 7’s. Lon also loved working in his yard and his Home.
Lon contracted Sepsis in July of 2019. He was hospitalized July 15, 2019 and suffered a stroke shortly after having the antibiotics for the Sepsis. He was transferred to Lutheran Medical Center, where he spent 8 weeks in the IUC -Undergoing an Aortic valve replacement, a Brain coil for an Aneurysm and a pacemaker. After spending a year in rehab and therapy he went back to work in July of 2020. He continued his physical therapy trying to get back to pre 2019 condition.
Lon is survived by his partner of 14 years, Michael Moore (son Keegan), two brothers, Douglas (wife- Amanda Sapp, children, Avery and Madeline DeGross) and Robert DeGross, stepmother, Teri DeGross and a multitude of cousins. Lon was predeceased by his father, Douglas H. DeGross.
