On Sunday, December 4, 2022, Lonna Reed, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 71.
Lonna was born on May 31, 1951 in Haxtun, Colorado to Merle Dean “Diz” and Cella (Thrasher) Garrett. She graduated Haxtun High School in 1969. On April 30, 1982, she married Kevin Reed, and moved to Alliance, Nebraska. They raised two sons, Jason (Jernigan) and Randy.
After moving back to Haxtun in 1996, Kevin and Lonna moved a couple times more – Salina, Kansas and Bellevue, Nebraska. It was in Bellevue that Kevin was lost to cancer in 2014, and she once again moved “home” to Haxtun, where she would spend time with her mother, extended family and old friends.
Lonna loved meeting new people and spending time with friends and family, and of course her dogs over the years. One of her all-time favorite jobs was working at Redman’s Shoes in Alliance, where she could demonstrate her love of chit-chatting with all members of the community and helping all the school aged kids find their favorite shoes for every sport and occasion. She was also an avid music lover and a collector of all sorts of cookbooks and figurine kick-knacks. She was known for her sense of humor, her laugh, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She was able to retain these qualities even during the darkest and most painful of times.
The last few years, she was staying in assisted living facility in Holyoke, Colorado due to her declining health and trying to live with and manage the extreme pain of numerous surgeries and severe infections. She is now finally pain free and reunited with the love of her life, Kevin.
Lonna was preceded in death by her father, Merle “Diz”, her mother, Cella, and her husband, Kevin. She is survived by her brother Craig, her sons Jason and Randy (Andrea), and Randy’s three children, Maddie, Payton, and Marshall, and two nieces and several cousins.
A memorial service is not planned at this time.
