Loren was born in Denver, CO on November 20, 1931. His parents were Clark and Doris Johnston. He graduated from Ft. Morgan High School where he was on the rodeo team. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 through 1953 in Guam, Okinawa, Philippine Islands, etc. during the Korean War. When he returned to the U.S., he resumed rodeo bull riding and reached the National Finals three times. He later started his own business as a big game hunting guide in Southern Colorado and operated guide trips and expeditions for many years. He then returned to the Denver area and worked as a journeyman sheet metal fabricator in the construction business until his retirement. After a brief retirement, he again started his own business as a custom knife maker and black powder powderhorn maker, and he sold them at the Tanner Gun Shows where he made many friends. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lillian; his daughter, Silvia (Robb); stepson, Larry Yates (Tracie); granddaughters, Gyllien (Jeremy) and Abbey (Jordan); step-grandsons, Dustin (Stephanie) and David; great granddaughters Raelynn and Harper, step-great-grandsons, Brandon and Soren. He is also survived by nephew, Mike Johnston (Noreen) and nephew, Brad Johnson (Ann); niece, Fran Huff; greatnephews, Jacob (Breezy), Robert (Cassidy), Ross, Jamey; great-nieces, Caitlyn (Zach), Julianne, Jen, Alysia and many great great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his son, Sidney Johnston; stepson, Frank (Lenny) Yates; brothers, Art Johnston and Allen Johnston; nephew, Scott Johnston. Visitation will be at the Horan & McConaty Lakewood Chapel on Sunday, 6/24/18 from 6-8pm. Funeral Service is Monday, 6/25/18 at 11:00 AM at the Phillips United Methodist Church, 1450 S. Pierce St. in Lakewood.
