Loretta Catherine Davis

October 20, 1925 — February 13, 2013

Loretta Catherine Engelken Davis, 87 years of age, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on February 13, 2013. Born on October 20, 1925 to Joseph and Anna Rettele Engelken, Loretta was raised on a farm in Seneca, Kansas. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and attended that school for 12 years. Loretta then ventured out from farm life to Kansas City where she got a job at UMKC Campus College as an office manager and later went on to work at a local furniture store as a bookkeeper. Loretta was a social butterfly one could say! She loved to take vacations with her girlfriends and was an active bowler where she met her husband, Joseph W. Davis. Loretta and Joe were married April 11, 1964. They moved to a Kansas City, Kansas neighborhood where they started their family. There, Loretta was very active as a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In August of 1966, Loretta and Joe had their first child, Kimberley Ann and their second child in December of 1969, Sheri Lynne. Her caring spirit and love of children led her to provide childcare for children in her home for many, many years. She and Joe became foster parents through Catholic Charities. She cared for all children as if they were her very own. In June of 1981, Joes job moved them to Aurora, Colorado where she again became an active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Loretta was a beautiful seamstress and took up quilting and even ran her own quilting classes. She also enjoyed ceramics, china painting and was a wonderful cook and homemaker. Her love of music led her to become a member of her church's choir for many years. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Francis and Benedict Engelken, and her sister Angela Engelken Reinecke. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Joseph W. Davis of Aurora, Colorado; daughter Kimberley Ann Engel (Shawn) of Aurora, Colorado and two grandsons, Jordan Aaron, US Army Private First Class of Dongducheon, Korea and Justin Allen of Aurora, Colorado; daughter Sheri Lynn Luptak and one granddaughter, Ashlyn Rose Ladwig of Breckesville, Ohio; brothers Edgar Engelken (Carolyn) of Denver, Colorado, Regis Engelken (Mary) of Englewood, Colorado, Leander Engelken (Connie) of Seneca, Kansas, and Gerald Engelken of San Jose, California, and many, many nieces and nephews and friends who loved her. A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado.
