Lorne 'Buzz' L. Scofield

Lorne (Buzz) Scofield, 79, of Centennial CO died Friday morning March 1, 2013 after prayers for the dying and anointing by Fr. Joseph Hearty. It was a peaceful death, and he was surrounded by family. Buzz was born to the late Malcolm and Genevieve Scofield, February 20, 1934, in Brighton CO. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1952. In high school, he played a year of football, then baseball, tennis and track. He also starred in two plays, was president of his senior class, played the drums in a dance band and was voted most likely to succeed. In 1957, he received has bachelor's degree from the University of Denver and an award for the highest grade average for a senior majoring in accounting. He was also invited to be in Phi Beta Kappa. He passed the CPA exam on the first try and was then drafted into the Army. Once he was discharged, he worked as a CPA for Arthur Anderson. He married Susan Parkhill of Evanston, IL in 1961. Later, he went to work in mortgage banking; then leaving the banking industry, opened a travel agency. When he found that there was no software available to manage his agency, he started a software development company with his son, Randy, to provide accounting and management software for travel agencies. They sold their program, PC MAX, to System One (Continental Airlines) in 1988. In 1994, he and his son, Dave, started another software development company to provide a windows version of travel agency accounting. They sold GlobalWare to Apollo Travel Services (United Airlines) in 1997. With the help of his daughter, Debby, he continued to serve his clients until 5 months before he died. He was a leader in the Anglican Catholic Church until 1995 when he and his wife entered the Catholic Church, soon to be followed by their four adult children, spouses and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue; his four children, Randy, David, Debby Hathaway, and John; 14 grandchildren; sisters Marilyn Eichner and Evie Schmidt; and neices and nephews. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM with a Recitation of the Rosary to follow. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 10:00 AM. All services will be held at Carmelite Monastery, 6138 South Gallup Street in Littleton, CO 80120. A reception will follow the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Hall located at 5612 South Hickory Circle in Littleton, CO 80120. Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Buzz's name to Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, Alabama 35210.
