Lorraine R. Mullen was born May 29, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Arnold and Rubie Hedean. The oldest of three Hedean children, she passed away April 29, 2019 in Denver, Colorado.
Lorraine attended and graduated from Edison High School in Minneapolis in 1944 and then attended and graduated from Miss Woodâs School, one of the first preparatory academies in the nation for Kindergarten teachers.
Her first teaching job was in Bemidji, Minnesota, where she met and became engaged to Robert A. (Bob) Mullen. They married June 19, 1948. Bobâs work in broadcasting and advertising soon took them to Minneapolis where their two children were born: Son Carter on March 5, 1950 and daughter Robin on July 4, 1954. The family moved to Arizona in 1962.
Ever conscious of art, design, architecture and fashion, Lorraine gave each of their Minnesota, Arizona and Mexico residents a smart, stylish flair that matched the manner in which she dressed. Her high school yearbook identified her as having just stepped out of the pages of Vogue magazine.
High principled and dedicated, Lorraine held marriage and family extremely important in her personal values and prided herself as always being on hand to greet her children when they returned home from school each day. When it would not interfere with her family responsibilities of husband, hearth and children, she did volunteer work at St. Lukeâs Hospital in Phoenix and at Phoenix Country Day School where both children attended. She was the ultimate mother and wife.
Lorraine loved to travel, and she and her husband vacationed extensively throughout Europe. Although she was of Swedish descent, she fell in love with Ireland and she and Bob spent many summers there where they observed and celebrated several marriage anniversaries. They summered as well at a family cabin in Canada and finally discovered more than 45 years ago the magic of Mexico where they acquired a home in the old colonial town of San Miguel de Allende.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her son, Carter, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and by her brother, Gerald, of Silverdale, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Denver, Colorado, her daughter, Robin Mullen Waldmann and son-in-law, Leonard (Len) F. Waldmann of Denver, Colorado and her sister, Mary Reiter, of Torrance, California. She will be remembered by many for her courtesy, her beauty and her class.
