Lottie Rozella Sappington McColum Hurst Lottie Sappington was born on October 28, 1920 to Thomas Gustin and Pora (Walters) Sappington of Cowden, OK and passed away on April 8, 2018 in Aurora, CO at the age of 97. She was the youngest of 10 children. During her high school years, in spite of her 4â11â frame, she was a basketball âstarâ, she was involved with 4-H and sang in the Glee Club, Mixed Chorus and in a Quartette. She achieved her associates degree and then married Roy Edward McColum, Jr., to whom she was married for 36 years until his death in 1976. Lottie and R.E. moved to Farmington, NM in 1947 where they owned and worked together in their dry cleaning establishments and pinto bean and wheat farm in the LaPlata mountains. Lottie and R.E. had two children, Barbara Munster and Deborah Holton. Lottie was married to Robert âBobâ Hurst in 1978 and they were married for 35 years until his death in 2013. During those years, Bob and Lottie enjoyed their cabin at Lake Vallecito near Durango, CO, and created many wonderful memories for the children of their blended families by providing a wonderful vacation haven. They were exceptional hosts and took everyone out fishing, and then came home and prepared a fantastic fish fry with the catch of the day. Bob and Lottie loved to travel and were fortunate to take a number of cruises and trips of a lifetime. God blessed us with Lottieâs presence for 97 years. She was a force. She had a quick wit with a great sense of humor. She loved to create good food and good times for her friends and family and would threaten to âskin us aliveâ if we stepped out of line. In 2012, Bob and Lottie moved to Denver to be in close proximity to Lottieâs family. During those years, Lottie continued to thrive and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lottie was lucky and liked to play the slots in Blackhawk, where she often came out a winner. During her later years, Lottie shared her generosity of spirit, her energy, dignity and grace with her family and set an example of a real class act. She will live in on in our hearts. Lottie is survived by her daughters, Barbara Munster and Debbie Holton; her grandchildren Wayne Munster (Michele) and Christy Schwalick (Ernie), Trevor Holton (Brianna) and Shelby Holton. Five great grandchildren, Mason and Riley Munster and Nevin, Nate and Noah Schwalick. Her step grandchildren, Todd Hurst (Lisa), Darin Hurst (Bobbie), Kory Faulk (Cheri) and Kelly Lovell (Nikki); and 10 step great grandchildren, Leah, Grant and Grace Hurst; Victoria, Bailey and Jack Hurst; Kyler and Brayden Faulk, and Elliot and Camille Lovell. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 12, 2018, 11am, with a funeral service following at 12pm, at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014. There will also be a reception to follow, at the funeral home.
