Louann Harris

December 24, 1931 — January 26, 2011

Louann Harris, 79, was born December 24, 1931 in Denver. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. She is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Robert (Bob) Harris, and their five children: Nancy Bradbury of Superior, CO, Sue Hebert of Denver, CO, Linda Milberger of Highlands Ranch, CO, Steven Harris of Wheat Ridge, CO, and Scott Harris of Lakewood, CO. Louann graduated from North High School in Denver in 1949, and from The University of Denver in 1954 with a bachelor's degree in education and a minor in music. She excelled in many areas during her high school and college years. She was a member of National Honor Society, played in concert bands and orchestras, and participated in several campus organizations, including Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Gamma and Mu Phi Epsilon while at DU. On June 13, 1953 she married the love of her life, Robert Harris. Both Bob and Louann were only children and dreamed of having a large family, a dream that came true for them. Along with five children and their spouses, Louann left behind 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. While Bob was stationed at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, during his service in the Army, Louann taught school. Shortly after their first child was born, they moved back to the Denver area where they have lived ever since. Louann was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom, raising their five children and supporting Bob in several of his independent business ventures, Darris Products, and later Rains-Flo Manufacturing, which is now being run by their sons. Louann retired from Rains-Flo in 2001. Louann served in leadership positions for many women's fellowship groups, PTA organizations, was a Girl Scout leader, played the flute beautifully in ensembles with friends or for church events, was in a church bell choir for many years, was an incredible seamstress and enjoyed crafts of all kinds. Above all else, she loved her primary role as mother, grandmother, homemaker and wife. She loved spending time at The Outlook, their second home in the Colorado mountains south of Fairplay. She was happiest when surrounded by her family. Louann's funeral service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80227. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, 29th and Wadsworth in Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. A reception will follow at the Harris residence, 2760 South Golden Way, Denver, CO 80227.
