Louis Eugene Szathmary, devoted and loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather passed from this life into eternal life on Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado. Born July 23, 1933 to parents Louis and Eva in New York City, New York. He was a proud veteran who served honorably during the Korean War in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Shortly after graduating high school, he met and later married his beloved wife “Ginger” (Angela) in 1955. After his enlistment in the United States Air Force was completed in 1956, he returned home to his wife and settled in Brooklyn, New York. They moved to Commack, New York in 1962 where they raised a family of four sons, Michael, Joseph, Louis and Peter. His Air Force technical training guided him to employment with Lockheed Corporation, Gyrodyne Helicopter Co, Grumman Aerospace Corporation and New York Telephone Company (ATT). He was a proud member of the Grumman Aerospace Team that was the chief contractor for the Apollo 11 Lunar Module which was the first to land a man on the moon on July 20, 1969. He retired from NYNEX (ATT) in 1989 and enjoyed retirement living in Las Vegas, Nevada, Phoenix, Arizona and finally Lakewood, Colorado with his cherished “Ginger”.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Angela (“Ginger”) of Lakewood, Colorado; sons, Michael (Anne Marie), Joseph (Patricia), Louis A. (Donna), Peter (Elizabeth); granddaughters Angela (Jeffrey), Madison, Paige (Ethan), Victoria and Alexandra; grandsons, Scott, Daniel, Nicholas and Luke; great-grandsons Abraham and Elijah; nieces Deborah and Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Eva Szathmary; sister, Joan Lang; nephew, Robert.
Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Lakewood, Colorado. Funeral Mass, 9:30 AM, Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Interment 11:15 am, with military honors at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver CO. The family requests that donations be made to a Veteran’s Organization in his name.
