Louis Andrew Terlep

May 30, 1918 — March 9, 2011

Louis (Louie) Terlep born on May 30th, 1918 in Breckenridge, Colorado. Son of John (a local silver miner) and Mary (a homemaker). Sibling of Mary, John, Jenny, Tony, Frances, Lilly, Charlie and Dorothy (Dottie) who is the only surviving sibling. At an early age his family moved back to Northern Colorado near Eaton close to where his family homesteaded. From there the family moved to Greeley, where he spent his teen years. In 1942 Louie was drafted into the Army for service in WWII. He was serving in France when he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. While he was recovering in Denver, he met a nursing student from Elkhart, Indiana named Helen Terlep. They were married on May 28th, 1949 and went on to have five children - Andy, Tom, Greg, Matt and Mary. In 1948 he joined the Carpenters Union Local 55 in Denver as an apprentice. It was a career that lasted until his retirement in 1980. Louie enjoyed his family foremost, but Polka dancing, playing the harmonica, the button accordion and coin collecting were his passions. A good game of marbles was a joy for him also! Louie and Helen were together for over 60 years until Helen passed away on September 21, 2008. Louie passed away on March 9, 2011 at his home of 53 years. They are survived by all children, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. They will be loved and missed as they had so much faith. May God bless them as they dance together again.
