Louise A. Coers

March 25, 1923 — May 17, 2011

Born Louise A. Guimes in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, Louise spent her childhood and early years in the coal region of Pennsylvania. Growing up in the depression era, she talked fondly of simple times and simple pleasures and not taking anything for granted. She had a strong bond with her brothers Arthur and Victor Guimes, and Robert Gowers. Arthur and Victor recently preceded her in death and she remained close with her brother, Bob, who lives in the Monterey, California area.

Louise proudly talked about her mother, Anna, who played piano for the silent movies popular back then and her uncle, Mike (pen named ‘Edwards’), who wrote music for Mills Publishing of Glenn Miller fame.

At age 18 and the beginning of World War II, she went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to start a civil service career that would last 42 years. Most of that time was spent at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. In Philadelphia, she met and married Ronald Fenton a submariner returning from duty in the Pacific. They had three children, Robert, Richard, and Ronald. Her son, Ron, preceded her in death.

Louise and Ronald divorced and Louise later married Donald Roth and had a daughter, Anna (Horton) and really enjoyed living in the small town of Cascade, Montana. Don Roth passed away in 1966 and she later married Hendrick “Henk” Coers. They traveled extensively in their motor home until Henk’s death in 1996.

Spending most of her life in Great Falls, Louise liked her job and going often to the “health spa.” She also enjoyed traveling to Europe and Asia with Friendship Force and hosting the foreign families.

In 2002, she moved to the Denver area to be closer to her son, Bob. She lived at Cherry Creek Retirement and signed up and participated in nearly every event they offered. She also loved going on long walks.

She is survived by her brother, Bob Gowers of Castroville, California; sons, Robert Fenton of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Richard Fenton and daughter, Anna Horton both of Great Falls, Montana; and eight terrific grandchildren, Ron, Matt, Drew, Lindsey, Amy, Danielle, Racquelle, and Jake.

Louise leaves a good life, legacy, and a strong belief in God.
