Louise Edgington passed away at the age of 94 in Longmont, Colorado, after suffering a ruptured aortic aneurysm. She was in hospice care surrounded by loving family as she peacefully transitioned.
Louise was married to Jack Edgington for nearly 72 years until his passing in 2022.
Louise is survived by her daughter Lynda, granddaughter Miriana, grandson Kyle, brother-in-law Wayne, sister-in-law Verna, sister-in-law Alice, and numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses, grand-nieces and nephews and their spouses, and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Born on a farm near Tarkio, Missouri to Ernst and Emma Lundeen, Anna Louise Lundeen (who always went by her middle name) grew up with her siblings Ida, Charles, and Frances. Louise was a first-generation American – her father was from Sweden, her mother from the Czech Republic (a part of Austria at the time).
Louise spent her earliest years on the Missouri farm until her family was forced to sell it during the Great Depression. The family settled in Hastings, Nebraska, where Louise spent her teen years and met her future husband, Jack, in high school. Louise and Jack were married on November 27th, 1950, at Fort Lewis, Washington, just before Jack shipped out for a 2nd overseas tour of duty in the Army.
After Jack returned from duty, he and Louise moved to Colorado which became their beloved home. Jack’s career involved frequent out-of-town projects - he and Louise were in Kansas City for several months where their daughter Lynda was born. After a 17-year detour to Washington D.C., the family returned to Colorado to stay.
Louise was a fulltime career woman. One of her earliest jobs was as an air traffic controller in Chicago, which she decided was boring! She eventually determined that bookkeeping suited her better and worked for multiple companies and individual clients in Colorado and in the Washington D.C. area.
Over the years, Louise was an avid skier, bowler, and golfer. She also loved watching baseball. She was very fond of the minor league Denver Bears, Denver Zephyrs, and was so excited when Denver finally got its major league Rockies. She loved attending baseball games with her friends.
Louise was talented at crafts. She knitted sweaters, throws, hats, and scarves. She created beautiful needlepoint pictures, pillows, boxes, and Christmas ornaments. She also enjoyed flower arranging, cake decorating, and collecting figurines, plates, and commemorative items.
Louise loved to entertain and was an excellent cook and baker. For many years, she baked about a million cookies each Christmas and shipped them off to friends and relatives around the country.
Louise’s biggest passion was books. She was an avid reader and always had 5 or 6 books in progress simultaneously. She had stacks of books throughout the house and kept Jack busy building bookshelves.
The last two years of Louise’s life were spent at Balfour Senior Living in Longmont, CO, first with Jack in an assisted living apartment, then in the memory care wing where she received loving care as she courageously battled Alzheimer’s. Despite struggling with short-term memory, she was still highly verbal, full of humor, and loved visits from friends and family.
Louise was a strong, confident, generous, beautiful woman. Her energy, intelligence, quick wit, and story-telling skills were a delight to her many friends and family. She was devoted to her family and always available to guide, comfort, encourage, and just treasure life together. A powerful presence in the lives of all who knew her, she is greatly missed.
Burial will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, where Louise will join Jack in their final resting place. A committal service is scheduled for Friday, July 7, 2023, at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Louise by donating to a non-profit hospice/palliative care organization in your local area.
