Louise's sudden passing September 27th, in Denver, ended her 92 year journey of a life that began in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 8, 1928 and was filled with many unexpected turns.
Despite winning several national awards in science, Louise chose to pursue a career in fashion design. Her plan was interrupted when she met a young, brash, returning WWII airman in French class at the University of Wisconsin. Louis Weiske, instantly smitten, courted Louise, winning her heart and hand. Married on her 21st birthday, she found herself moving to California, a mother to her first daughter at 22. The following nine years brought moves to Texas, Wisconsin, and two more daughters, Michigan, a first son, and a second son born in Japan.
As the wife of a career Air Force First Sergeant, Louise was a leader in multiple organizations, both on and off military bases. Her participation continued when the family moved, once again, first to Massachusetts, and then returned "home" to Wisconsin for the next forty years. Lou and Louise's final move was to Denver, Colorado, in 2009.
It was in Wisconsin that Louise returned to work outside the home, having a long career in Retail. Managing several departments at Yonkers/Pranges Department Store, and later as the buyer/manager of the St. Elizabeth's Hospital Gift Shop, she was able to reconnect with her lifelong love of fashion and design. Louise was a talented seamstress and pattern maker, knitter, and gifted with floral arrangements, all skills she taught during her four years in Japan.
Adored by Lou, who kept her smiling throughout their 66 years of marriage, Louise relied on her deep faith to sustain her when he died May 27, 2016. As she held his hand he passed away, ending their 70 year long love story. During this difficult time, it was Louise offering support to her grieving family, all, while exhibiting grace and composure.
A natural leader, Louise never sought the spotlight, and was always surprised to discover she had been selected to take charge of meetings and groups. Constantly putting the needs and comforts of others before her own, she was a wonderful listener, often entrusted with the confidences of friends and family. Her kindness and empathy was a part of her truly sweet nature. Intelligent and curious, politically engaged, possessing an inner strength and deep passions, Louise was also stubborn when it mattered, yet incredibly patient. Her appreciation of beauty and order was reflected in the joy she took in her beautiful homes. A lifelong reader, she loved to spend her afternoons with her nose in a book. Easily contented...she was always happiest, sitting with her family, holding hands, as she and Lou had done throughout their lives together.
Ultimately it all comes down to Love. Louise was Love, Loving, and Loved. Her character was shaped by love. That is the beauty of her life and the sadness of her death. Deep love brings great heartache. There are many of us whose hearts are full, blessed by her life, touched by her departure, grateful for our time together.
We will miss you and remember you always.
