Rev. Lowell M. Campbell was born in Roseburg, Oregon February 09, 1925 to W. Matthew and Esther L. Campbell (both deceased). He had one older brother, William, and one older sister, Elizabeth Kilby (both deceased). Upon graduation from Roseburg Public Schools, he attended college for one year before being drafted. He served three years during World War II with the 70th and 78th Infantry Divisions. He was in the Field Artillery. Wartime service included combat and occupation duty in Europe. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1946 and returned to the University of Oregon where he graduated with a B.A. in 1949.
In 1951 he married Betty J. Fisher while he was attending McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. After his graduation they went to Alaska to serve an Eskimo congregation on St. Lawrence Island. Five years later they moved to Anchorage to serve another Presbyterian congregation. Four of their five children were born in Alaska - Michael, Gary, David, and Deborah.
In 1960 the family moved to Milan, Illinois where Lowell became Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. During their ten years there, Rebecca was born. In 1970 Lowell became Pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church in Centennial, Colorado and served there until retiring in 1990. Beginning a year before retirement, he served as Stated Clerk of Denver Presbytery, and continued there for five years.
Lowell and Betty were married 51 years before her death in 2002. He is survived by all five children and their spouses: Michael (Jan), Gary (Carolee), David (Denise), Deborah (Eliot), and Rebecca (Cliff), along with 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
Church services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton, 1609 W Littleton Blvd, Littleton, CO 80120, at 2:00 PM on Sunday January 6th, 2019. The following week he will be honored and interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery alongside Betty. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to either the First Presbyterian Church of Littleton Memorial Fund, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for Cancer Research.
