Lucille Julia McCorkle

September 24, 1914 — May 12, 2014

Lucille Julia McCorkle passed away on May 12, 2014 at the age of 99. She was born in San Marcos, California on September 24, 1914 to John and Grace Fulton Borden. She was the third of five children and grew up in the agricultural land of Southern California among apricot and avocado trees. After graduating from Escondido High School, she became a registered nurse and worked in a variety of health care positions. She married James Everett McCorkle on July 3, 1936; they came to Denver after the war and became active members of the community. In addition to raising a family, Lucy spent much of her adult life working and volunteering in Christian education, Girl Scouts, YWCA, and the Red Cross. She was very active in Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, Lakewood United Church of Christ, and Wellshire Presbyterian Church. Lucy and Ev had a vivid spirit of adventure and enjoyed travel and outdoor activities such as jeeping, hiking, skiing, camping, and bird watching. They enjoyed trips to six continents and across the United States and brought home wonderful stories of the sights of the world and friends they'd made along the way. Lucy's love, leadership, and sense of humor is fondly remembered. She is survived by her children, Ken McCorkle and his wife Patricia; Corki Kempton and her husband Ted; and their daughters Terri and Sue Ellen and their spouses. Lucy has been laid to rest next to her late husband at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver. Please join us for a celebration of Lucy's life that will be held at Wellshire Presbyterian Church, 2999 S. Colorado Boulevard, Denver, CO 80222 on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. For directions please visit wpcdenver.org or call 303-758-2233.
