Lyle Leroy Lafferty was born May 1, 1933 in Loveland, Colorado to Lyle Winifred and Cornelia Lafferty. He was the first-born of four, two sisters, Cornelia Vee and Verona, and a brother, Richard Keith (R.K.).
Lyle grew up in Loveland and parts of Wyoming on a farm. He graduated from Loveland High School then joined the navy. After his discharge he lived in Denver, where he married Carolyn Willcox. They had three children - Catherine Carol (Cathy), Lyle Edward (Ed) and Linda Lynette (Lynette).
He spent his career in the printing industry at Woehrmyer Business Forms, until the company closed its doors, then began his own start-up venture, Triple L. Printing. With diligence and resolve, he made the new company a success.
He and Carolyn parted ways after thirty years. Fortunately, a few years later he met Myrna Sims. They hit it off, but the clincher was that they were both born on the same day in the same year, a fateful match of two May Day babies so they married to live a fulfilling life together.
Myrna brought to the family two sons of her own, Kerry and Keith, plus spouses, grandchildren and, eventually, great grandchildren.
Lyle enjoyed travel, square dancing, church and community events and led a rich life full of friends and extended family.
Lyle’s outlook was one of kindness and generosity. He had a million-watt smile, which he was always shining on those fortunate enough to be around him. He went the extra mile to ensure anyone he came in contact with was treated with enthusiasm, warmth and affection. He volunteered in many capacities and he and Myrna gave from their hearts to a variety of organizations.
He was a very active fellow. An avid outdoorsy guy, he camped, fished and hiked. He also went up in a hot air balloon over Crested Butte and rafted on the Poudre River. He had a monthly poker night with the guys and was, indeed, fond of all types of games. He would go to the local rec center, The Mac, to play pool or simply stay in shape.
He and Myrna, along with friends and family, travelled quite a bit, to places such as Canada, Europe, Ireland, the Panama Canal and destinations within the United States. His final trip was a bucket list whale watching tour off the coast of San Juan Island, WA. The sighting of two pods of wild orcas brought joy to his soul.
Later in life he was so proud to be included in the Honor Flight program, where he flew to Washington D.C. alongside other veterans to visit monuments and memorials dedicated to their service.
After a difficult, lengthy struggle with cancer, the circle of Lyle’s life is now completed to leave him at peace. A man of deep Christian faith, he never wavered in his convictions that he would be with God in the end.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Myrna, brother R.K., daughter Cathy and husband Mark Jorgensen, son Ed and wife Jill Lafferty, daughter Lynette and husband Mike Chilcoat, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
