Lyndon Eugene Overholser, 91, of Littleton, CO passed away with the love of family surrounding him on March 16, 2024. Born in Diagonal, Iowa, Lyndon shared many tales of growing up on his family’s farm with his two brothers Bill and Bob, a life that he loved and remembered fondly despite the occasional hardships of farm life.
He attended Diagonal High School and went on to graduate from Simpson College in 1955 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. His social nature shined brightly during these school years and he participated in many activities, earning letters in basketball and cheer squad, playing clarinet in the marching band, and even portraying Hortensio in a Shakespeare play. Above all else, he looked forward to cutting a rug at Saturday night dances, and it was at a Simpson college dance that he met Edith, his future wife. They married in 1956 and had four children, all daughters who they supported and encouraged to follow their dreams and ambitions.
An entrepreneur at heart, he worked for several years in the Look Magazine Fulfilment Division before working his way up in various commercial real estate companies and eventually striking out to become his own commercial real estate boss in Overland Park, KS where he eventually settled. He cherished Sunday family dinners, neighborhood gatherings and block parties, teaming up with Edith for epic bridge marathons, hosting the occasional German Oktoberfest, and finding ways to do creative battle with the common squirrel.
He is preceded in death by his wife Edith, and his brothers Bob and Bill and their spouses Doris and Janice. Left to mourn and celebrate his life are his daughters and sons-in-law Cynthia and Mike Mullen of Dallas, TX; Sonia Overholser and Dale Wiggins of Phoenix, AZ; Linda Overholser and Kent Osborne of Highlands Ranch, CO; and Lisa Overholser of Highlands Ranch, CO; as well as three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1 pm at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 5303 E County Line Rd, Centennial, CO 80122. Memorial donations can be made in Lyndon’s honor to Optimal Hospice, 4380 S. Syracuse Street, Suite 455, Denver, CO 80237.
