Lynn Wilkins McMillan

June 11, 1909 — September 7, 2012

Lynn Wilkins McMillan, age 103, of Ft. Collins, Colorado passed away on September 7, 2012. Known by ""Mac"", he was born on June 11, 1909 in Paducah, Texas. He was raised on a farm with his five sisters and two brothers. Mac attended the University of Texas and upon graduation worked in accounting and bookkeeping until he was drafted in the Army in the spring of 1941. Mac had various assignments in World War II, spending time in Virginia, New York, the Philippines and Japan. His last assignment was in Japan, a large invasion was planned and then the war ended. Mac retired as an Army major in 1969. He worked for the Veterans Administration where he spent 30 years of civil service. He was also a part of the National Guard for six years. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth on October 12, 1941 and enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. Mac and Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, square dancing, and of course their family and many wonderful friends. Mac lived in Dallas for most of his life until he and Elizabeth moved to Colorado in 2000 to be close to their son, Charlie, of Windsor due to health issues with Elizabeth. After Elizabeth died in 2002, Mac moved to his new home in Ft. Collins, Rigden Farm Senior Retirement. Mac loved being at Rigden Farm, he made so many friends, many of them were like family. He loved working in the garden, tending to the tomato plants, they even put a plaque in his honor in the garden, ""Mac's Garden."" He attended Spanish class, bingo, happy hour every Friday, and enjoyed all of the outings and other activities. Mac loved a good margarita. Mac always had a smile, a different bola around his neck and enjoyed all that life had to offer. The Northern Colorado Honor Flight that he took on September 11, 2009, at age 100 was one of his most precious memories. What a time he had, making new friends. Even received a proposal from a lady at one of the monuments they were visiting. Mac, leaves behind a son, Charlie and wife Karen from Windsor, Co. A granddaughter, Debbie Mosier, her husband Jon, and great grandsons, Sean and Jake from Windsor, Co. A grandson, David McMillan, his wife, Teresa, great grandsons, Brandon, and Tyler from Boise, Idaho. In lieu of Flowers, it was Mac's wish that a donation be made to the Northern Colorado Honor Flight, 711 8th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado 80631, (970) 304.9970 so other veterans would be given the chance to experience a trip back to Washington DC. Please make Checks payable to: Community Foundation for Honor Flight.
