Lynne Kitchens

July 8, 1941 — July 13, 2022

Littleton, Colorado

Lynne Brauer Kitchens, 81,  passed away July 13, 2022 at her home in Littleton, CO.  Lynne was born in Cleveland, OH on July 8, 1941.  Lynne’s childhood was spent in what was then the sleepy suburb of Buckhead, just north of Atlanta.  She was a straight  A student at Northside HS (except for a single B in PE that secured her status as class Salutatorian), received her undergraduate degree from Emory University and then a Master of fine Arts from Vanderbilt.  It was there that she met her husband, John Kitchens (aka “Roomie”), and the next phase of her life began.

As a young graduate, newlywed and then new mother, Lynne traveled extensively throughout Central and South America.  She, John and later with their (2) sons lived in Lima, Bogota, and Guatemala City.  Lynne’s friendly manner, self-confidence and love of music helped her quickly endear herself to whomever she met wherever they went.

While raising her family in  Montgomery, AL, Lynne sought additional career challenges, earned her law degree (#1 in her class!) and began working as a research attorney on the Alabama State Supreme Court.  John and Lynne later retired to Port Charlotte, FL and then moved to Littleton, CO to be nearer their youngest son and grandchildren.  In retirement, she volunteered as a court appointed mediator and child advocate.  She was also a very talented and passionate genealogist.

Lynne is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John Kitchens; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Amy Kitchens; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Michelle Kitchens; grandchildren, Emily Kate Donald, Benjamin Kitchens, Ashley Mashburn, Charlie Kitchens, Mary Rose Kitchens, Adam Kitchens, Mathew Cooper, Tyler Kitchens, Delaney Kitchens and Kyle Kitchens; brother, Larry Brauer.

A celebration of Lynne’s life is scheduled for September 8th, 2022 at 10am MST at the Red Rocks Room in the High Line Clubhouse within the Wind Crest retirement community:  2975 Summer Wind Lane, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129.  The family will also be streaming the service over zoom https://apcon.zoom.us/j/8179851659?pwd=MHgrbG9kWmd6VzlrQjJqZzB2alFYQT09 for those unable to attend in person.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lynne’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association .
