M. Virginia Weber, Ginger, 89 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the night of May 31. It was seven years to the day after the passing of her late husband, Frank Weber.
Ginger was born on November 16, 1930 in Denver, to Arthur and Mary Josephine McKone. Of Irish and Slovenian descent, Ginger was the third of four children, and a first generation Denverite. Her parents grew up in Iowa, met in Denver and raised their family in the Washington Park area. Ginger went on to live her entire life in Denver.
Ginger attended St Francis DeSales School grade school and high school. For college, she studied elementary education at The University of Northern Colorado, in Greely. A high point in her college days was the summer she spent working as a waitress at the historic Broadmoor Hotel, in Colorado Springs.
She met Frank Weber at a Catholic single's club dance. They were married soon after. Before becoming a mother she was an elementary school teacher for Denver Public Schools. Being a teacher prepared her to be a wonderful mother of 5 and grandmother of 9.
Ginger enjoyed making crafts of all kinds including sewing, quilting, leaded glass, macramé, crocheting, toll painting and scrapbooking. She played the violin and guitar. She liked to jitterbug and play golf. She attended water exercise classes for over 30 years where she developed many close friendships. Throughout her life she was an active volunteer for the Catholic Church and the historic Four Mile House. She enjoyed spending time at her family cabin in Grand Lake as well as traveling around the U.S. and to Europe with her husband Frank and their friends from Risen Christ parish.
Nurturing, engaging and generous with everyone she met Ginger made you feel that you were the most important person to her. At a party, she made it her mission to talk with everyone in the room. Her home was open and welcoming to all, where everyone wanted to be.
Ginger was loving and beloved. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends and all who had the honor of knowing her. Ginger is survived by her brothers Gene and Paul (Sandy) McKone; and her five children; Paul (Megan) Weber, Greg (Maureen) Weber, Rose (Phil) Silberman, Jim (Nancy) Weber, and Rick (Anna) Weber.
Catholic Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 12th at 2 PM at the Risen Christ Catholic Church in Denver, 3060 S Monaco Pkwy, Denver, CO 80222.
Memorial contributions or donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Arrupe Jesuit High School, 4343 Utica St, Denver, CO 80212.
