Marcia Simmons

April 27, 1961 — April 27, 2006

On her birthday, Thursday April 27th 2006, the Lord Jesus called Marcia home to be with him and the angels of Heaven. An angel born to her mother Ann and Martin Schultz in Lincoln Nebraska in 1961, Marcia was a Child of God, one who excelled as a child, teenager, and adult in piano, music, science, mathematics, chemistry, microbiology, and having a lot of fun with her parents, sister Christine, brother John, and her oldest brother Gail. In addition, Marcia's excelled as a wonderful wife, beautiful mother, loving daughter, and great friend to those who knew her. Graduating from Central High School in Grand Junction Colorado in 1979, Marcia continued her education, first at Mesa State College in Grand Junction and then moving to Colorado State University, Fort Collins Colorado where she earned in 1983 a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. While at CSU, Marcia met her future husband David on August 27th 1982 and one year later on August 27th 1983, David and Marcia became husband and wife. In the words of an old Irish saying, David 'married up''Marcia was David's light of the world. Accepting an offer from St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital for further graduate studies at the Texas Medical Center, Houston Texas Marcia continued her clinical training in Medical Technology and became a Laboratory Scientist. Following her husband back to Denver Colorado, Marcia worked for Denver General Hospital for five years and then moved to USAF's Bitburg Air Base, Germany, where David served during Operation Desert Storm. Marcia loved traveling throughout Europe and up to England, attending to wine fests, castles, up to London and traveling throughout the British countryside. Her own angel and only child Benjamin Lee was born at Bitburg AB in 1991. Benjamin Lee is a strapping young man now, and has followed in his mother's footsteps with a wonderful interest in music, piano, the saxophone, scouting, and education. Returning to America in 1993, Marcia initially worked as a Medical Technologist and Laboratory Scientist at Presbyterian Saint Luke's Hospital in Aurora Colorado and later on she accepted a laboratory position at the University of Colorado, at CU's Wardenberg Hospital in Boulder Colorado. Excelling at CU, Marcia had a calling in 2001 to leave the medical world and to take her experience and education to the K-12 public school arena. She enrolled in the state's Teach In-Resident program and then taught science to 8th Grade students at Century Middle School, Adams 12 School District in Thornton Colorado. Many of Marcia's fondest and happiest professional experiences were to be found teaching science to America's future generations. In 2004, Marcia was offered a position at the Colorado Association for Continuing Medical Laboratory Education (CACMLE), where she continued to assist as Conference Coordinator to ensure continuing education for many of America's present-day laboratory scientists. Marcia leaves behind a legacy of tender loving affection for those she knew and people who knew her. She had a wonderful fondness for children, their scholastic as well as their spiritual education. She deeply loved her family and they loved her. In lieu of flowers, Marcia wished that donations be made to the Children's Programs at the Church of the Holy Comforter, 1700 West 10th Avenue, Broomfield CO 80020. Viewing is scheduled on Friday, May 5, 2006 from 4 '"" 8 pm at the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton CO.
