Marcy Nicks

Marcy Nicks of Castle Rock, Colorado passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 22, 2021 at the age of 72, with her husband by her side and the Christmas carols she loved softly playing.  Marcy retired from a career as a Safety Manager with the federal government in 2003 after leading the effort to organize the work force at the Rocky Flats Nuclear plant prior to the plant’s closing, in an effort to ensure the workforce was treated fairly during the shutdown of the plant.  She served as the president of the AFGE local from inception until her retirement. After retiring, she became a Zumba instructor, leading classes at various recreation centers and fitness clubs in the south Denver area, turning her passion for music and dance into a post retirement career.

Marcy loved bowling.  It was while she was bowling in a league at Celebrity Sports Center she was introduced to her future husband.  Together they bowled in many leagues, her favorites being the Las Vegas leagues that would bowl in an annual tournament in Las Vegas, where the bowling, food, shows, and casinos made for many long, enjoyable days.  Her wry sense of humor often caught friends and family by surprise.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Dennis, and her son Travis.  She is also survived by a sister, Ardell Frank, of Billings, MT.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Pauline Frank, and brother Ken Kessel.

A memorial reception will be held Monday, January 3, 2022 at 11:00am at Horan & McConaty located at 5303 East County Line Rd., Centennial, CO.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that you honor her life with a donation to the Colorado Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
