Margaret Janet Clark

December 16, 1936 — November 3, 2010

Margaret Janet Clark December 16, 1936 – November 3, 2010 Margaret Janet Young was born it the small town of Sioux City, Iowa and grew up working summers on a family farm in Lamars. The middle of three sisters, she was very close with older sister Kathryn and younger sister Jeanne. It was in Iowa where Margaret learned a hard work ethic that would stick with her and serve her well her entire life. After studying for a year at the University of South Dakota, she married Jon Clark in Sioux City on May 31, 1957. Margaret and Jon had their first child, daughter Kelly, on July 15, 1960, and shortly thereafter moved to Denver, as Jon landed a sales position with The Denver Post. The Clarks had their second child, son Jay, on August 2, 1963. Margaret was an incredible homemaker and mother and also pitched in with stints at retail stores and banks to make ends meet. When her children were older, she went to work full time at United Bank, which became Norwest Bank, which became Wells Fargo Bank. Through countless mergers and new banking laws and economic highs and lows, Margaret was always a valuable asset to the banks, because she served her customers and colleagues with great compassion, caring and sound advice. Her greatest accomplishment was her family, which she nurtured and held together. She had an incredible green thumb and grew a magnificent collection of houseplants that added a great touch to the Clark home. She was a master seamstress and knitting expert, crafting dresses, sweaters, shawls and blankets. Shortly after retiring from Wells Fargo in the late 1990's, she and Jon moved to Surprise, Arizona. She fought a long, valiant battle against cancer, and far outlived expectations through her determination and strong will. Through her children Kelly (and husband David) and son Jay (and wife Jill) she had five grandchildren: Natalie, Jay, Ellen, Molly and Jacob. Memorial Service to be held on Monday, November 8, 2010, 1:00 p.m., at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (one block to the west of Holly Street), in Centennial, Colorado. Memorials are being suggested to JoAnn B. Ficke Cancer Foundation, 9904 East Pinewood Avenue, Englewood, Colorado 80111.
