Margaret M. Connors

October 30, 1919 — April 20, 2017

Margaret Elizabeth Moore was born on October 30, 1919 to Warren J. Moore and Emma Schwartz Moore, in Minneapolis Minnesota. She was the youngest of four children and the only girl. She moved to Denver with her parents at the age of 16, leaving her grown older brothers Don, Allyn, and Ken in Minnesota. She attended West High School for 1 ½ years where she distinguished herself by joining many singing groups. She had a beautiful alto voice, sang in the Sweet Adelines, several trios, the Denver Post Opera, and the choir at Our Lady of Lourdes church. Margaret went to Barnes Business school and was a secretary at Montgomery Ward. She met John Connors in 1942 when she went to hear a live radio broadcast at a hotel. John swept her off her feet with his sparkling Irish eyes and sense of humor….they were married in May of 1943. John was in the Air Force and that and the war really influenced their lives. They had many funny and interesting stories of being in the service and living through the depression. Their only child Patsy was born in 1952. Margaret then did various jobs from home and went back to work full time when Patsy went to college. She was the school secretary at Our Lady of Lourdes for 15 years and loved the students and staff alike. In her seventies and eighties she worked part time at Morgans Pharmacy. It gave her some spending money and got her out of the house! Margaret was always busy with her hands…..sewing school clothes for Patsy, cheerleading uniforms, bridesmaids dresses, along with clothes for friends…..doing beautiful counted cross stitch….knitting dish cloths….making bibs for nursing homes…..pruning her roses…. & cooking. She was a tireless volunteer at church and creative Girl Scout leader. She was a strong and independent lady and the longest living member of her family at 97 ½ ! We laughed recently that only the very old and very young count their age using ½ of a year. She was a loving wife, exceptional mother and mother-in-law, enthusiastic Gram, great Auntie, good neighbor, great friend. She had a wonderful long life and will be missed by many. Margaret is survived by her daughter Patsy, son-in-law Tom Houlihan, granddaughter Bridget and her husband George Hayman. Margaret also leaves many loving nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 16, 2017, 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2298 South Logan, Denver. Burial will follow, 1:15pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery 3698 South Sheridan Blvd., Denver, Staging Area ""C"". Please share memories of Margaret and condolences with her family in the Guestbook.
