Margaret Spedding Drake

October 24, 1932 — June 12, 2018

Margaret Spedding Drake, “Peg” passed away peacefully at home June 12. She was born on October 24, 1932, the youngest of four siblings and grew up in rural Pennsylvania, helping her parents manage the family hotel and restaurant in Clifford, Pennsylvania. Attending college at Penn State University, she majored in education, accounting and typing. There she met her life’s love and husband Don. They moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana where they raised two sons until husband Don’s passing after 49 years of marriage. She managed a real estate development office for over 40 years until moving to Colorado to be with family. She became a fixture in her community at River Walk in Littleton serving many roles using her accounting and business skills. She attended St. Andrew United Methodist Church until her death. Known for her gentle spirit and love of all, she was endeared by all who came to know her. Her granddaughters still laugh at Peg’s method of coping with conflict. Her advice was always “Kill them with kindness.” At her family’s last Christmas, she was asked to provide the dinner grace. She brought a quote that has been on her refrigerator at home for years with the following: “The way to happiness. Keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Scatter sunshine. Forget self, think of others.” Preceding her in death are her husband, Don, brothers John and Walter, daughter in law Jean. Surviving family are sons Tom (Vicki) and Jim, grandchildren Andy, Tyler, Abbey and Erin and sister Jeanne. Peg will be missed by family and friends. A celebration of life will be had at River Walk Clubhouse, 2751 W. Riverwalk Circle, Littleton, CO 80123 , at 2pm on Saturday July 7. As per her Methodist background, “All are welcome at the table.” Please leave condolences for Peg's family below.
