Visitation and viewing will be held at 10:30. Interment will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery Margaret was born on July 3, 1915 in Hiteman, Iowa. She was a treasure to her family. Always upbeat and positive, loving and easy going. She spent her early years in Iowa, Minnesota, California and Omaha, Neb following her father's career as a roofing salesman. She graduated from Central High School in Omaha Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska. She met the love of her life, Howard Henry Hunker, at a house party when she was 16. She was married to Howard for 63 years until his death on February 9, 2004. Shortly after they were married Howard was sent to the Pacific during WWII. During that time she worked for United Airlines as a passenger agent- her favorite job. When Howard was returned to the US they spent a year at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. When he was discharged they moved to Colorado as they had honeymooned here in 1941 & loved the mountains. She worked at Neusteters modeling coats, suits and furs until they started a family. And so our version of the Wonder Years began on Niagara Street in Park Hill. They had three children; Karin, Susan and John. Margaret was a wonderful loving wife and mother. Always fulfilling our every wish and need. She was a talented seamstress making her daughters matching dresses, doll clothes and costumes for school plays. Howard and Margaret were founding members of Cure d' Ars Church. Margaret volunteered at the Church and school for many years. Margaret loved to travel. We took annual family vacations, many including her beloved Tetons in Wyoming. She & Howard loved road trips and traveled extensively covering the lower 48 and Canada. They traveled until they were 85. In 2007 Margaret fell and broke her hip. She was sent to Life Care Center in Longmont. She lived there for her last seven years. She remained positive and upbeat and loved all of her caregivers and they all loved her. We want to thank all the staff of LLC for their fabulous care, love and concern for our dear Mother. Margaret was preceded in death by her son John and her husband Howard. She is survived by her two daughters: Karin (Bob) Johnson and Susan (Bruce) Wittich; two grandsons Todd (Clare) Johnson and Craig (Lane) Johnson; two great grandsons: Quinn Johnson and Cameron Johnson and a great granddaughter due in May. Margaret always said that she was very lucky and had a wonderful life. We, her family and friends are the lucky ones. She met her death with the same grace, dignity, humor and love with which she led her life. Please share your Memories of Margaret and condolences with her family by signing the guest book below.
