Margaret J. Peters ""Peg"", 72, of Lakewood, died on Tuesday May 20, 2008 at Brighton Gardens following a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on July 6, 1935 in Marshalltown, Iowa to the late E. E. and Ruth Growney, Mrs. Peters was also predeceased by her brother Louis Growney of Portland, Oregon and sister Maureen Lauterbach of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Her brother Robert Growney still lives in Waterloo, Iowa. Mrs. Peters is survived by her husband of 49 years Jerry; her five daughters Amy Peters, Sara Sawyer, Polly Wagner, Jenny (PJ) Peters, and Mia Murray; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, all in the Denver metro area. Mrs. Peters was a dedicated member of St. Bernadette Catholic Parish where she actively volunteered her time as an educator and administrative assistant for more than 30 years. An avid sports fan, Mrs. Peters rarely missed attending a Broncos home game and did her part to cheer on the Nuggets and Rockies as well. She loved children and was a committed humanitarian. She was personally moved by the plight of war time orphans in Vietnam during the 1970's and worked as an administrative volunteer placing more than three hundred orphaned children in U. S. homes. Visitation will be held at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth, Lakewood, CO, on Tuesday May 27, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM, reception to follow. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Bernadette Parish, 7240 W. 12th Avenue, Lakewood, CO, on Wednesday May 28, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Rockwell, Iowa on Saturday May 31, 2008 at 11:00 AM, followed by lunch. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the Brighton Gardens of Lakewood caretakers for their loving and thoughtful care. Memorials may be sent to St. Bernadette School or the Colorado Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
