Margaret Tracy

January 29, 1933 — October 29, 2022

Lakewood, Colorado

Margaret "Gretel" Tracy died peacefully in the morning hours of October 29, 2022 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO.  Margaret was born in Trier, Germany on January 29, 1933 and married John T. Tracy Jr. on August 12, 1956.  She was known as Margareta Tracy until she became a naturalized citizen of the United States on September 17, 1961 when she changed her name to Margaret.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2002.

Margaret met John in Germany while John was stationed there serving in the US Army.  Their courtship led to a lifetime of happiness, 5 children, and many adventures driving across Colorado and the United States.  Margaret was an enthusiastic community leader and teacher who taught many of the neighborhood children at the Steel Center’s Tiny Tots program during their pre-school years and eventually worked with the special needs children at Skinner Junior High School.  She also led the initiative to build a community center at Berkeley Park.  One of Margaret’s most impactful accomplishments in the community was establishing the community school at Skinner in the 1980’s

Margaret and John moved to Manzanola, CO in the southeastern part of the state in the early 1990’s where they enjoyed retirement and life on the farm.  They delved into many aspects of the farming/ranching community and enjoyed their time there.  Margaret eventually moved back to the Denver area where she lived for the last 12 years.  She enjoyed seeing her children and grandchildren who lived in Colorado and getting visits by those living out of state.

Margaret is survived by her children and their spouses Tom (Nancy), Susan (Blaine Herring), Robert, Carla, Patty (Tom Miner), 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Margaret will be buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery with her beloved John on November 15, 2022.

Funeral services for Margaret will be held at Light of the World Roman Catholic Church in Littleton, CO at 11 am on November 15, 2022.  Reverend Isidore Orjikwe and Deacon Eric Montagne will officiate the service.  Interment will follow at 1pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
