Margaret ""Maggie"" Vogenbeck

Margaret ""Maggie"" N. Vogenbeck was born Sept. 13, 1944 in Paterson, NJ. She passed away on June 9, 2013 in Arvada, CO after a long battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her four children, Monica (and husband Del) Mayhak of Arvada, CO, Jennifer (and husband Henri) Frei of Lakewood, CO, Danielle (and husband Dan) Varda of Arvada, CO, Garrett Vogenbeck of Portland, OR; 11 grandchildren, Brennan, Maria, Katja, Cade, Alina and Emmett Mayhak, Elliana, Brielle, and Ethan Frei, Olivia and Harlow Varda; her brother, Charles M. Lyon M.D., Spring, TX, sister, Tesha Hammonds, Grand Junction, CO and twelve loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles M. Lyon, mother, Josephine C. Lyon and sister, Jo Ann Matthews. Maggie graduated from Bayley-Ellard High School in Madison, NJ in 1962 and received a Bachelor of Science in Math at the University of Texas at El Paso in 1966 followed by a Masters in Educational Technology from Texas A & M University, College Station, TX in 1992. Her long teaching career began in the Ysleta ISD and the Canutillo ISD while living in El Paso, TX. Her focus shifted to teaching students in other contexts first at Alliance Treatment Center and later as a Math instructor at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, OR where she was affectionately known by her students as ""Miss Maggie."" Her dedication to teaching encompassed over twenty-five years of an inspirational vision of hope, promises, and the conviction that every student had special gifts when given the opportunity to learn. Maggie was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who took great pride and enjoyment in her children, grandchildren and loved her family entirely. She lived her life as a devout Catholic with a firm belief in God's love and mercy. Her gentle memory will live forever in the hearts of her beloved family, friends and many students. Public Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with the Recitation of the Rosary to follow at 6:00 PM. Both will be held at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 5612 South Hickory Circle, Littleton, CO 80120. Burial will follow at 12:15 PM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge. A Reception will be held, following the Burial, at 1:00 PM, back at Horan & McConaty, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada. Pallbearers will be Garrett Vogenbeck, Del Mayhak, Brennan Mayhak, Cade Mayhak, Dan Varda and Dean Hammonds. Honorary pallbearers are Henri Frei, Charles Lyon, M.D., Charles Lyon, III and Donald Hammonds. Please share your memories of Maggie and condolences with her family by signing the guestbook below.
