Margaret "Caroll" Gabert

March 6, 1929 — April 27, 2022

Margaret "Caroll" Nix Gabert, age 93, died at home on April 27th, 2022, surrounded by her family, including daughter Susan, sister Char, and great-granddog Daphne. Beloved mother, sister, Nana, friend, and nurse. She was happiest when she could care for others. She made friends so easily. She loved singing in the choir and around the campfire. Her love for the skies of Alberta was as broad and full as they are.

Caroll grew up in Red Deer, Alberta. After moving to Edmonton with her family, she was a strong voice in the decision to purchase a family cabin at Lake Wabamum, where the entire family spent many happy summers. She was trained in nursing at the Royal Alexander in Edmonton, married Harvey Gabert in 1953, and worked in Canada and the US as a nurse for many years. She was actively involved in Christ United Methodist Church in Salt Lake City, Utah, singing in the choir, and participating in other activities. After retiring from the University of Utah Medical Center, she moved to the Denver area to be near her daughter and family. She bravely fought breast cancer - surviving for over 20 years when the doctors thought 6 months was all she had left. She showed courage, love, compassion, and grace to all she met, making instant and long-lasting friends.

Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Harold and Viola Mae Nix, brother, Harold Nix, and children, Stephen Gabert and Kathryn Feller. She is survived, and sorely missed, by her sister, Charlotte Smith (Richard), daughter, Susan McIntosh (Daniel), son, Tom Page, grandchildren, nephew and nieces, great-grandchildren, and many kindred spirits. Her light and love will be missed. Rest well, dear one.

Burial will take place in Alberta at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ed and Trudy Duncan Scholarship ( https://www.christumcutah.org/duncanscholarship.html ) or the Performing Arts Academy ( https://paacolorado.org/donate/ )
