Marian Lucille Wilson

April 8, 1915 — July 13, 2011

Marian Wilson was born Marian Lucille Jones on April 8th, 1915 at the family farmhouse in Barrett, Kansas. She was one of two identical twins born to Horace Llwellen Jones and Lela Mabel Renshaw. Marian grew up on the family farm with her 3 brothers Lyle Jones, Robert Jones, and Marvin Jones. She also had 3 sisters Ann Walters, her twin Mary Louise Smith, and Mildred Ridgway. Also living with the family was an orphaned cousin Francis McCoy. She attended a two room school house in Barrett, Kansas until high school age, and attended high school at Frankfort, Kansas until graduation. She and her twin Mary Louise were active in school sports and both played on the girls' basketball team. Her father Horace passed away in 1925. After high school graduation she attended Emporia State Teachers College for two years. She then became a teacher and taught in a one-room schoolhouse near Frankfort, Kansas for about 2 years. She married Harold Earlund Carlson in 1937. She had two children Richard Lee Carlson in 1940 and Thomas Albert Carlson in 1947. Marian and Harold lived in Franklin, Nebraska where she did bookkeeping for the local bank and the local live stock sale barn. She was divorced in 1951, and Marian, Richard and Tom moved to Manhattan, Kansas. Marian stayed in Manhattan for a short time and she worked in the local bank. They then moved to Salina, Kansas where she met and married Raymond E Wilson who was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base. Raymond E Wilson Jr was born to Raymond and Marian in December of 1957. Raymond and Marian were then stationed in San Diego, California for about a year. After San Diego, Marian and Raymond were sent to Cheyenne, Wyoming where they lived for about 5 years. Marian and Raymond were transferred to Clinton Sherman Air Base, Oklahoma where they stayed for about 5 years. Raymond retired from the Air Force in 1969 and he and Marian moved to Lakewood, where they lived in the same house until 2010 when Raymond passed away. Marian stayed in her house until she passed away on July 13, 2011. Marian is survived by her Sister Mildred Ridgway, her Sons Richard, Tom, and Gene. Also numerous Nephews, Nieces, Grandchildren, and Great-grandchildren survive her. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 10am at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel located at 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard. Burial is private.
