Marie Loyola [Fresquez- Paiz]- Padilla

January 2, 1949 — January 24, 2019

Marie Loyola Padilla, 70, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 with her family by her side. Marie was born to Espiridion Fresquez and Eulalia [Martinez] Fresquez on January 2, 1949 in Los Valdeses, Colorado.

Marie was a devoted Christian she was immensely proud of all her children, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. As her health declined, she often repeated the quote: "When I die, I would like to come back as a beautiful butterfly or a bird."

Marie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She also loved to cook, read, plant flowers and decorate her home. She also enjoyed traveling in the car and seeing new and exciting places. She was a great pool player and was always a good sport even if she lost. She excelled in math, and English. She also had a creative imagination in home decor. She had a great sense of humor. Marie had a fondness for cats. She had a cat named Mr. Wiggles whom she would loving call "Wiggie" when he was mischievous. She helped raise two grandchildren, Lilliana, and Jerome Jr. as well as one step grandchild.

Among her favorite pass times was to shop for clothing and shoes. She loved outdoor BBQs and trying new kinds of food. She enjoyed listening to music: Christian, Country, 80's, R&B, soul, oldies, and was especially fond of Jazz. She loved doing daily word searches, playing cards, and playing board games, Scrabble being her favorite, earning the nickname, "Scrabble Master." She used to love to have family gatherings in Taos, New Mexico, where her family originated. Everyone would sit around the bonfire and play their guitars and sing songs in Spanish all night long. The laughter from that experience can still be heard. She used to love to go to comedy clubs, Central City, and she really loved to dance, ‘Shaking her tail feather.' Marie also really cherished her Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Marie was a very strong, elegant woman with natural beauty. She always looked perfectly put together, even when she was on a tight budget. Her hair, nails, makeup, and clothes were always well coordinated. She maintained a youthful appearance, her skin always soft and beautiful, as she always paid special attention to hydrating. Looking, and smelling good were important to her. She would always say, "Please iron your clothes." She hated wrinkly clothes.

She would often say "Whatever."

She used to wear funny t-shits that said thing's like: "I don't like to argue, but when I do, I win," and "I can only please one person a day. Today isn't your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either." It was always interesting to see what funny, cap or t-shirt she had on. She loved wearing hats, and when she travelled, she would always collect a new hat. She used to watch the Denver Broncos, but was never happy when they lost a game, and she loved baseball. Her favorite team was the New York Yankees, and then she added the Rockies when they came to Colorado.

If anyone knew Marie, they would tell you that she had very high end taste in everything she looked at or bought. She enjoyed looking at, clothes, shoes, jewelry, and nice cars. I would say, "Mom you know we can't afford to buy one of those cars". To which she would reply, "We can look, can't we?" With a big smile on her face.

Marie met Florencio "Ray" Paiz in 1974, and they married in 1982. They resided in Colorado Springs, CO. He passed away in car accident in May 25,1987. She never remarried after his passing. She moved to Denver, CO. in 1999 to be closer to her children, grandchildren and family and friends.

Marie is survived by her siblings Vicky Fresquez, Francisco Fresquez, Augustine Fresquez, Lucille Slaughter, and Mario Fresquez; her children Sandra Padilla, Andrew James Padilla (Sr.), Antonio Clyde Padilla Jr., Jerome Joe Padilla Sr., and Felix Ricardo Gutierrez-Padilla; twelve grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Espiridion Fresquez and Eulalia Martinez; her siblings Melva Garcia, and Tony Fresquez; and her husband Florencio Ray Paiz.

Her final resting place is at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Marie was a devoted and beloved mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.

Marie would always say "Don't tell me goodbye, say, I will see you later"

Marie Loyola Padilla, 70, a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, and a wife.

"Her life was well lived, and earth is a cruel place to be. Now that she is residing in God's kingdom, let us offer prayers and comfort to her family and friends."
