Marie Fishwild Schmidt

May 7, 1969 — July 8, 2012

Marie Fishwild Schmidt was born in Monticello, IA on May 7, 1969 and passed away on July 8, 2012 after a very brief and unexpected illness. Marie is survived by her husband Mark Schmidt, parents Ken and Shelley Fishwild, and sisters Lisa Hale (husband John) and Laura Caruso (husband Stephen), and two nephews, Grant and Will Hale. Also, mother and father – in – law Barbara and Dick Clark, two brothers – in – law, Bert Schmidt (Missy), Doug Schmidt (Dawn) and a sister – in – law Linda Gutenberger (Tom) and nine nieces and nephews. She was married for 14 years to the love of her life, sharing travel that incorporated her passion for wine, food, friends and adventure. Marie was always a thoughtful and loving sister, helpful, creative, brave and ready to try anything, including scuba diving, ultra light and glider flying, zip lining, snow mobiling and photographic safaris. She loved her precious black labs, Casey (who passed away last year) and Annie, still active at 14. Early in life, Marie enjoyed swim team, marching band and debate team. Many of her speeches were ad-libbed, which made her teachers nervous when she was asked to give a graduation speech. They weren't sure what would come out of her mouth, but in the end, it was polished, professional and inspiring. Marie completed 4 years of college at University of Iowa, majoring in Political Science and Economics. She was such a great and challenging student that she kept her teachers on their toes! Marie's career included working retail in Bellingham, WA and selling Yellow Pages in Denver, where she met Mark. She worked in the banking industry for a number of years before moving into the Title industry as a closer, where she was well loved and respected by her co-workers and many clients. Marie was also a passionate gardener, who didn't mind getting her hands dirty in the pursuit of the perfect potting arrangement, flower bed or landscaping detail. She and Mark relished the time spent enjoying the fruits of her labor, on the patio with friends and a great bottle of wine with a meat and cheese tray expertly prepared by Marie. Her cooking skills and demand for control in the kitchen were legendary. She once told a well meaning, but inept acquaintance, who was slowing down the preparation of a meal, to ""Get the F--- out of my kitchen!"" Mark learned to get out of the way and enjoy the results of this passion. Marie was taken from us much too early, but many of her friends and family are better people for having known her. There will be a visitation on Friday, July 13, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, Colorado 80227. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 14, 2012, 10:00 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church, 9405 West Florida Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado 80232.
